Margaret Trimble Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Dec. 16 to Dec. 17, 2018.
Margaret Ann Bell Trimble, fondly known as Mama Peg, shared her love of God and others through her music. Jim, her beloved husband of 71 years, and her family were the centerpieces of her life. She died on December 8, 2018 in Atlanta, GA, after living most of her life and raising her family in Jacksonville, FL. Jim and Peggy were inseparable and enjoyed many years of travel together with a special affection for the beach and the mountains. Mama Peg will be remembered with great love for her passion for music, her enduring faith, and for her love and care for her grands and great grands.

Peggy was born in Duncan, Oklahoma, on November 14, 1924, to Requa and Bernice Bell. After graduating from Oberlin College in 1945, she studied nursing at the Presbyterian School of Nursing of Columbia University in New York. She served in the Cadet Nurses Corp during World War II. Peggy married James R. Trimble, M.D. in Portland, Oregon, in June 1947 during his medical internship.

Jim and Peggy moved to Durham, NC where Jim joined the Department of Dermatology at Duke University. In 1952 they moved to Jacksonville. Peggy became a member of the board of Directors for the Duval County Medical Center Auxiliary and served as head of the nurse volunteers for the Pediatric Ward at the Duval County Medical Center. She was an active member of the St. Johns Presbyterian Church where she sang as a soprano in the choir for 45 years, played the piano, served as a spiritual head of women, and participated in Bible study. She was a member of Timuquana Country Club where she enjoyed playing golf and tennis .

Peggy was a member of the Philanthropic Educational Organization (PEO). She played piano regularly at meetings and contributed to many programs. She taught Bible study and entertained residents on the piano at the St. Johns Terrace Home where she also served on the Executive Board. Peggy believed that through her music both as a singer and piano player she could bring happiness and insight to others. She was very proud of all the volunteer time given to the residents of the Terrace Home by her grandchildren, their friends, and the members of both the St. Johns Presbyterian Church and St. Mark's Episcopal Church.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents and by her brother, William Requa Bell. She is survived by her husband, James R. Trimble, M.D. ; her three children, Bonnie Trimble Copeland (Wade) of Atlanta, GA; Thomas Bell Trimble (Shelly) of McLean VA; and James William Trimble, M.D. (Mary Jane) of Jacksonville, FL; 8 grandchildren, Jennie Trimble Busey (Brooks), James Scott Trimble, M.D. (Amanda), Sarah Trimble Luby, V.M.D. (Kyle), Kathryn Copeland Shem (Ray), Victor Thomas Copeland, M.D. (Caroline), Kyle Copeland Rapp (Alex), Courtney Anne Trimble, Allison Foerster Trimble; and 11 great grandchildren. The family gives special thanks to Evelyn Brown and Kay Abernathy for the loving care they provided for Mama Peg through the years.

A memorial service honoring Peggy's life will be held on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at 4:00 p.m. at Peachtree Road United Methodist Church, 3180 Peachtree Road, N.E., Atlanta, GA 30305. Visitation will be prior to the service from 3:00-4:00 P.M. in the church narthex. Bonnie, I was so saddened to hear about your Mom. The last time I was in Atlanta, I called her but she didn't remember me so I didn't visit her. She and your dad definitely led a wonderful, full life. I loved having her as a neighbor! I particularly got a kick out of how particular she was about the yard. The azaleas between us were mine but I could have cared less about how they were trimmed. One day, she pulled limb by limb to see if I thought it should be trimmed. I told her I would just level them and let them grow back! Of course, she wasn't about to do that! We had many laughs over the years. Wish I could be there for her service.

Tommy, Bonnie and Jay,

My family was so saddened to hear of your Mother's recent passing. As next door neighbors for what seemed to be a lifetime, we have some great memories of swimming at your house, enjoying surprise goodies your Mom would bake and bring over and listening to her play the piano. Mrs. T or Mama Peg, as we ended up calling her, could have been the inspiration for Nike's popular promo, Just do it, because that's just what she did. She was never one to sit around and wait for someone to make a move...she was fast on the draw, ready and eager to serve others without expecting any gift in kind. I know you all will miss her, but I'd imagine she's already reunited with your Dad, dancing in the sky.
Peace to you all as you grieve the loss of such an inspirational woman.

Mamma Peg or Mrs. T to my Sister Hope & I was like another grandmother. Growing up next door, she treated us like one of her own never missing the opportunity to ring the door bell, hide and watch us in surprise open Easter, Christmas and Birthday presents. Some of our fondest memories as kids were swimming and hosting our Birthday parties at their house. She was a truly a sweet, kind and loving person that will be truly missed. Just glad we got to spend time with her my condolences go out to the entire Trimble family!

Tommy, Bonnie & Jay,

My family was so saddened to hear of your Mother's recent passing. As next door neighbors for what seemed to be a lifetime, what great memories we all have of swimming in your pool, eating her delectable goodies and listening to her play the piano. She was such a sweetheart and always there to help. She could have been the inspiration for Nike's popular promo, "Just do it", because that's just what she did - she was not one to sit around and wait on others to make a move...she was always the first available person, ready and eager to help, without gift in kind. I know you all will miss her, but I'd imagine she's already reunited with your Dad and they're dancing now.

Peace to you all,

My heart is broken! Growing up next door to Mrs. T was one of the best gifts a child could ever receive. All of our grand parents lived in different states, so Mrs. T filled that space in our hearts. From the many birthday pool parties she hosted to being our secret Easter Bunny and Santa Claus. She forever left a mark on our hearts that I will carry with me always. Mrs. T was a living angel spreading her love to all. Even though we haven't see her in years, her spirit lives within all of us. We love you Mrs. T and are so grateful for all of the wonderful memories you gave us!!

May everyone be strengthened with Margaret memories and also with God's love and peace through this time of sadness from Jeremiah 29:11. My condolences!

I enjoyed many hours with Mama Peg at Canterbury Court. Her knowledge of the Bible and music was to be admired. She was loving and kind and such an example of a Southern Lady. Blessings and Peace to all of you as you celebrate her wonderful life.
With love and prayers, Candace Godwin, PT
