Maria Castaneda Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 19, 2022.

Maria was born January 5, 1943 in Candelaria, Texas. She was raised in Chihuahua, Mexico, where she later met and married the love of her life, Jesus Castaneda. The two had 7 children and would make Odessa, Texas their home, in 1972.

Maria was a loving homemaker and always prioritized her husband and children, in every way possible. When her husband tragically passed on August 23, 1981 she focused her energy on her children who would later bless her with 22 grandchildren, 62 great-grand children, and 5 great great grandkids who all loved her immensely. Maria had many doting titles including Mami, Chica, Visca, and Vieja. Maria had a big and very united family, she in many ways helped raise and care for her grandkids, great grandchildren and even her great-great grandchildren. Maria was always ready for a simple drive through town or a quick weekend getaway, she enjoyed every minute of it, so long as she was surrounded by her family. She was surrounded by her loved ones until her final breath.

She is preceded in death by her parents, (Husband) Jesus Castaneda, (son) Jesus Manuel Castaneda, (son in law) Emilio Zubia, (beloved grandson) Osvaldo Chevy Renteria (which absolutely broke her heart) and (great great grandchildren) little Janie Rojo & Aliaina Velasquez.

She is survived by (Daughters) Maria Lozoya, Diana Rocio Leyva and husband Tano, Manuela Zubia, Ivonne Castaneda, Jessica Castaneda as well as (Son) Fransisco “Pancho” Castaneda and his wife Manuela.  She will be truly and sorely missed, by all.

A visitation will begin Thursday, October 20, 2022 at 5:00 – 9:00 pm. A prayer service will begin at 7:00 pm at Acres West Funeral Chapel.

The Family would like extend their gratitude to Home Hospice Care and to everyone who has expressed condolences and offered prayers.

Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel in Odessa, TX. Condolences to the family may be made online at acreswestfuneral.com
