Maria Rosa Cecchetto Jubie

December 4, 1946 - July 11, 2024

Maria was born just after WWII in the Veneto region of Italy to Gino and Natalina Checchetto. At the age of 4 years old the family moved to Windsor, Ontario, Canada. After a short while they moved to Dearborn, Michigan where Maria had some of her fondest childhood memories of her and her brothers Bruno and Carlo.

After Gino was offered a job to help construct the Science Pavilion for the Seattle World's Fair, the family moved to Everett Washington. Knowing exactly what she wanted to do after graduating from Cascade High School, Maria attended Everett Junior College to get her nursing degree. During a career that began in 1968 she helped thousands of patients. Including her husband, Richard, whom she first met as her patient for a knee injury.

After working at Everett General Hospital, Maria took a few years off from the late 1970s to the early 1980s to fulfill her dream of being a mom. Her children Brian and Natalina received the benefit of her loving nature first-hand.

Her call to nursing returned and she went back to work at Providence Hospital Everett until she retired in 2008. Her nursing career was almost as important to her as being a mother. It was a natural outpouring of her true caring, compassionate and patient life. Throughout her years as a nurse, and well after, she was frequently greeted in public by former patients and their family members to thank her for her kindness during their difficult times. Especially since she spent most of her career helping cancer patients. Her life touched many people.

She had a childlike innocence to her that meant she had a way of unconditionally loving and caring. Part of this nature was reflected in her love of Disneyland and Mickey Mouse that she had her entire life, often reminiscing about watching the opening day of Disneyland as a child. Her gift of being young at heart was felt by all. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

In accordance with her wishes a celebration of her life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family has asked that you please donate to NOAH Animal Shelter in Stanwood Washington.

I worked for several years with Maria side-by-side on the oncology unit. I will never forget her compassion, kindness, and devotion to her patients. She always lifted the spirits of the patients and her coworkers. I remember many patients telling me how much they appreciated her individual attention and that she had made a real difference in their hospital stay.

I will never forget the encouragement. She was to me on difficult days. She was always there to help when you needed an extra pair of hands, or a hug. It was always a better day when Maria was on duty.

My deepest condolences to all her family and friends. I know she is now in the arms of Jesus.
