Marian J. Quinn Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 17, 2010.
GENEVA – Marian J. Quinn, 92, of Geneva and formerly of Oak Park and retired to Long Beach, Ind., passed away Wednesday, March 10, 2010, at Provena Pine View Care Center in St. Charles.

She was born Feb. 3, 1918, in Chicago.

Marian was born and raised on the southwest side of Chicago. She was the second of four daughters born to Catherine (Varley) and James Jordan. She came of age during the Depression, attending St. Rita Grammar School, St. Casimir High School, now Maria High School, and graduating from Chicago Teachers College. She was of great help to her family at home after her older sister and mother died at an early age. Her kind and empathetic nature made her a loving caregiver to her father, aunts and youngest sister. She taught grade school history, loved to discuss politics, read, garden, and was a wonderful cook. Her unwavering faith in God would be the essential foundation she would rely upon throughout her long life.

She enjoyed spending time at her family's summer home along the shores of Lake Michigan, where she met and married Bob Quinn, her husband of 60 years. They settled in Oak Park to begin their family. Marian's dedication to her four children would be the most vital and fulfilling role of her life. Her selfless sacrifice to her children's upbringing and welfare knew no bounds.

With her family grown, she and her husband retired to Long Beach, Ind., to relax and enjoy life. She volunteered at the local hospital, was active in her church, loved her grandchildren and thrived with her family close by. She will be remembered as a beautiful woman with a character of exceptional strength, uncommon dignity and the grace of an angel. She will forever be in the hearts of her family, who ask God's blessings on her soul and to grant her eternal peace.

She is survived by her children Edward J. Quinn of Melrose Park, Eleanor Q. (Daniel) Halt of St. Charles, James J. Quinn of Geneva, and Robert J. (Tracy) Quinn of Santa Rosa, Calif.; four grandchildren, Lauren (Chris) Humphreys, Daniel Halt, Kristin Halt and Jacob Quinn; two great-grandchildren, Jordan and James Humphreys; and her sister, Virginia Kane, and sisters-in-law, Mercedes (Don) Weber and Nancy Quinn.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Joan and Eleanor Jordan; and her husband Robert, who passed Dec. 11, 2009.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 22, at St. Peter Catholic Church, 1891 Kaneville Road, Geneva, with the Rev. Dennis Morrissy celebrant.

Interment will private at All Saints Cemetery in Des Plaines.

Memorials may be made to Misericordia Heart of Mercy Home, 6300 N. Ridge Ave., Chicago, IL 60660.

Dear Eleanor, Jim, and family, I want you all to know how much we enjoyed getting to know your sweet mother, Marian. Even though we only knew you and your mother for a short time during her stay at Pineview, it was a very special time. It was so nice to have someone to share similar experiences with and to find a way to laugh together. Eleanor and Jim, you have been a blessing to me and it was a true privilege to have known your mother. May God bless you all, Cheryl Reis and Reba Cabanaw
