PALATINE - Marian McNeely has died.
She was born in 1927 in Chicago. She married Walter McNeely in 1949 in St. Bernard's Church.
She attended St. Adrian's Grammar School, Loretto High School in Englewood and DePaul University. After leaving college, she worked as a private secretary for the C & amp; E. I Railroad and later for Harvey Realty in downtown Chicago.
In 1972, she and her family moved to the Whytecliffe subdivision in Palatine, where she held several offices in the Whytecliffe Homeowners Association and the Whytecliffe Women's Club. She also was the creative-writing chairman for the Women's Club of Inverness for several years.
She and her husband were members of the Equestrian Knights of the Holy Sepulchre, the oldest knighthood in the Catholic Church. Both had been elevated to the rank of Sir and Lady Commander of the Grand Cross.
She enjoyed her family, reading, traveling, and especially writing poetry. She has had three books published: "A Woman and Her Words and Word and Words," "Symphonies, Shamrocks and Songs," and "Golden Roses and Rhymes." Her works are included in many poetry anthologies and also have been published in newspapers and periodicals both here and in Ireland.
Survivors include her husband; five children, Kathleen (K.C.) Danz, Geri Schultz, Tom, Mimi (Kevin) Kazimer and Therese (David) Stuckmann; 12 grandchildren, Kevin and Bob (Jacquie) Danz, Shaun and Rob Schultz, Ryan and Ashley McNeely, Connor and Brandon Kazimer, and Zach, Nicole, "Angel" Rose and Ceilie Rose Stuckmann.
The visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 6, at Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home, 185 E. Northwest Highway, Palatine. The service will be at 9:45 a.m. Monday, Nov. 7, at the funeral home before the 10:30 a.m. funeral Mass is celebrated at Holy Family Church, 2515 W. Palatine Road, Inverness.
Interment will be in St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery.
