Marie Cohen Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 7, 2024.
Marie Cohen (nee Minisci), 71, beloved mother, Mimi, sister and friend, passed away after a 6-year battle with ovarian cancer on May 6, 2024.

Born on April 24, 1953, in Amsterdam, NY, Marie was the eldest daughter of the late Rachel and Frank Minisci. She is survived by brother Frank Minisci (Jean) and her sister Nancy Collins. She was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Gary Collins.

She married Stewart L. Cohen on September 3, 1977, with whom she enjoyed a devoted marriage and deep partnership until his death in 2016. She is survived by her daughters, Allison Flynn (Lawrence) and Elizabeth (Betsy) Cohen (Geoffrey Greer), granddaughters Isabella Flynn, Olivia Flynn and Sofia Flynn. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, and a devoted community of friends.

Marie was a pharmacist who enjoyed early success in her career, working at New England Medical Center and Beth Israel Hospital. She was a graduate of Bishop Scully High School in Amsterdam, NY, and held a BS in Pharmacy from Northeastern University and an MBA from Roosevelt University.

Marie was known for being gentle, kind, and strong. She was incredibly bright, a voracious reader, and loved to travel. She and her husband Stewart were renowned for their generosity with their family, friends and community. They frequently brought dozens of people together for holidays, dinners, trips, and eagerly cared for all their loved ones. They were also celebrated for their philanthropic work, having been honored by Jewish Family Services of MetroWest and Jewish Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Greater Boston. Marie served as a board member of Jewish Family Services of MetroWest for several years. She loved yoga and was trained to be a teacher at Kripalu, one of her favorite places to visit. Most of all, Marie was dedicated to caring for and spending time with her family. She was a devoted daughter and cared for both of her parents during their final years. She delighted in being with her granddaughters, with whom she lived for the last five years of her life. She faced the trials and tribulations of her disease with remarkable bravery and grace, true to her uncommonly stalwart nature.

A celebration of life will be held later this summer. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute or Youth Communication.

My heart has sunken. I´m so sorry for your loss. Your mom was indeed incredibly kind, empathetic, smart and generous. She and your father were always there for me. Two good souls are now reunited. G-d bless you Ali and Betsy.
