Marie Cowan of Hampton Roads, VA, passed away July 13, 2022 with her family at her side. She is preceded in death by her mother, Margaret Jones; sister, Bettina Jones; and ex-husband, Alvah Lee "Skeeter" Cowan.

Marie loved her career as a Local Realtor with Abbitt Realty and moved from being a Selling Agent to Vice President and Managing Broker for both the Newport News and Denbigh Branches throughout her career. After retiring from Abbitt, she spent many years as a Real Estate Teacher with Alpha College well into her early 80's. Marie spent her earlier years devoting herself to raising her 3 children and being very involved in several community and civic activities, while enjoying flower arranging, painting, and being a member of the Farmington Garden Club. She was known in her teens for singing on the radio in Norfolk with her sisters.

Survivors include her sister, Ann Owens of Charlotte NC; Sons, Michael Cowan (Laura) and David Cowan; her Daughter, Jennifer Cowan Heuser (Barry); and her grandchildren, Jared Heuser, Daniel Cowan (Sara), Courtney Cowan (Eric Lasley), Caroline Cowan and Samantha Derby (Todd); and great grandchildren, Sadie Cowan, Eva Cowan, William Cowan, Graham Derby and Joanna Derby.

I was a secretary for Marie at Abbitt Realty's Newport News office in the early 1990's. It was a joy to work for everyone at that office and even after my employment ended Marie and I remained friends. I am thankful that I was able to visit Marie several years ago and was hoping to see her again next month when my husband and I travel down to VA from PA. Marie will always have a special place in my heart and her smile will be missed by all!
