Marie McGinn Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 26, 2011.
BANGOR - Marie Adeline (Bagley) McGinn slipped away peacefully March 24, 2011, at the age of 81 at an Orono nursing home. She was born Aug. 3, 1929, in Centerville, to Richard and Nellie (Caler) Bagley. While raising six children, Marie often worked as a waitress to supplement the household income and provide allowance money to her children. Upon her husband's death, Marie lived simply, but cherished the times she spent with her children through family gatherings and more informal visits. During the years Marie lived alone, she also enjoyed the company of her new "children," her beloved Jack Russell terriers, Rico and Jackie. They provided Marie with company and entertainment, and she spoiled them rotten. Her hobbies included solving word search puzzles and reading romance novels by Betty Neels. Even in her later years, she always remained the quiet center of the family. A familiar question was "Who is going to bring Mom?" Marie was not your usual matriarch, but for the extended family who knew her and what she overcame in life for the sake of her children, she will be remembered and honored. She is survived by her sons, Michael and his wife, Jean, of North Yarmouth, Peter and his wife, Lucinda, of Westbrook and John and his wife, Angela, of Bangor; and daughter, Kathleen McGinn Hannon and her husband, Larry, of Milford. In addition there are treasured grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly. Marie was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence; her son, Stephen; and her daughter, Susan. A service of remembrance will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 30, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, with the Rev. Dr. Rex H. Garrett, director of chaplaincy services at Eastern Maine Medical Center, officiating. Interment will be held at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Ohio Street, Bangor. After the service friends are invited to share conversation and refreshments at Kathy's residence in Milford. Those wishing to remember Marie in a special way may make gifts in her name to Disability Rights Center, 24 Stone St., P.O. Box 2007, Augusta, ME 04438. Condolences to the family may be expressed www.BrookingsSmith.com.

I am so glad I got to meet Marie a few years ago, a cousin I never knew existed. She wasn't in good health when we met, I am so sorry to hear of her passing. I often look at the pictures I have of Marie and me in her living room. I will treasure my pictures and that visit forever. My deepest sympathy to Marie's children. My dad was Manley, son of Archie (Nellie's brother) & Ethel Dorr Caler. Cindy Caler, 32 Jefferson St,, Haverhill, MA 01830

Surprised to learn that Marie had passed on. I worked with her husband Larry, who had passed well before his time. We were very good friends back in the 60's. Larry was a wonderful person. Family will not remember me, and I understand how time affects these types of family matters. Wish I had known more about Marie, I would have loved to have made a visit to see, and reminisced with here. Best to her family.
