Graveside Service at the Walters Cemetery, Walters, OK, Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at 2:00 p.m., Ed Eschiti Officiating. A Prayer Service will be held at Hart-Wyatt Funeral Home Chapel, Walters, on Monday Evening at 7:00 p.m.

Marie Joyce (Chockpoyah) Sevier, or Midge, was born to Lee and Alice Lorean (Hicks) Chockpoyah on February 26, 1930 in Lawton, OK at the old Indian Hospital and departed this life in Temple, OK on February 14, 2024 at the age of 93 years, 11 months and 19 days.

The eldest of 10 children, Midge grew up 8 miles northeast of Walters between the 2 Beaver Creeks. She attended the two-room rural schools of Lone Star and Beaver Ridge, and then Walters High School. She married Leon Sevier, Sr. on April 12, 1948 and to the union 2 sons, Leon, Jr. and Kenneth Ray were born. Midge was a homemaker until 1969. After receiving her license as a Psychiatric Technician, she worked for the State Department of Mental Hygiene, Porterville State Hospital, Porterville, CA.

Midge was a member of a bowling league with fellow shift techs. She enjoyed sewing for the public, making toys, hand piecing and quilting quilts for children and doing any kind of handwork.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leon Sevier Sr.; her sons, Leon Sevier Jr. and Kenneth Ray Sevier; a grandson, Marshall Leon Sevier; 4 sisters, Connie, Lou, LaVera and Lena.

Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Gwenda Sevier of Moore, OK; 2 brothers, Fred Chockpoyah of Walters, Eddie and Rose Chockpoyah of Grandfield, OK; 3 sisters, Sylvia Jean Ricketts, Geraldine Gray both of Walters and Jessie Foster of Comanche, OK; a brother-in-law, Mike Calfy of Walters; 4 grandson, 1 granddaughter, 6 great grandsons and 4 great granddaughters; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
