Shrewsbury - Marilyn Paladino's roots to her native Italian heritage and neighborhood remained a constant throughout her life. Born on August 28, 1950 in Worcester she was the only daughter of four children born to the late Dante and Mary (Simone) Salerno. She spent much of her formative years with her extended family in the city's Italian neighborhood on Shrewsbury Street where she learned at a young age the art of cooking and the love of a great family. Her father owned the long time and well-known Shrewsbury Street landmark, 'The Black Orchid' and for many years Marilyn worked there with her family. A graduate of Burncoat High School, she had a long and varied career spanning from hospitality in her early years to office work later in life. Most recently she spent over fourteen years as a valued employee and colleague back on her native Shrewsbury Street as a medical assistant in the offices of Dr. Frank Fechner M.D. Marilyn lived in Shrewsbury for over forty-three years and she loved working in her yard, sitting by the pool, keeping the kitchen as an active gathering space for family and friends, and keeping up with her knack and passion for interior decorating. She also had a passion for good food and wine and was an excellent cook. While Marilyn had many passions none was dearer to her than being a dedicated and loving mother. She loved her large family of extended cousins on the Salerno and Simone sides and beyond, and adored her grandchildren. She also always looked forward to her time on the beach and in to Kennebunkport, Maine. Marilyn died Sunday, May 15, 2022 in Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston after a long and hard fought battle with an illness. She was 71. In addition to her husband of 30 years, Joseph F. Paladino, she leaves her sons, Patrick G. Moore (Kristi) of Shrewsbury, Matthew J. Moore (Asami) of Sydney, Australia; her step-children, Michael J. Paladino of Arlington and Nancy Paladino of Medford; her grandchildren, Cameron and Rylen, Kai and Ren, Michael Jr., Caroline and Jillian and great-grandchild, Rowan; her brothers, Dante Salerno (Sandy) of Douglas, John Salerno (Mary) of Shrewsbury and Rob Salerno (Dina) of Boylston; also survived by nieces & nephews and an extended large family. Family and friends will honor Marilyn's life by gathering for calling hours on Saturday, May 21st from 9:00 - 10:45 a.m. in Saint Anne's Church, 130 Boston Turnpike, Shrewsbury, followed by her funeral Mass celebrated at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, 450 Brookline Ave, Boston, MA 02215 or www.dana-farber.org. Arrangements by James & John Heald of The Joyce Funeral Home.

This has taken me a bit to be able to say how special Marilyn is. I use is, because was is too painful. Friends is a word that carries weight. She was that one in a million of people. Always beautiful, stunningly so, but the beauty inside is where it mattered. She looked for the best in everyone and was loyal to a fault. She loved her family beyond measure. Each one had a special place in her heart, and she shared so many stories about each one that her love was palpable. Marilyn had such a great attitude about life. As she struggled with her health issues over the years she remained positive, always embracing life with a zest that was incredible. To live for her family and friends was what kept her going. I have never met such a kind and loving person. Quick to compliment, kind to service people and just all around a shining star. Her light still shines and will forever. God Bless you, and your treasured family. You made me feel like family and I will carry you in my heart forever!❤
