Marion KLEIN Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province on May 26, 2018.
Marion Elizabeth KLEIN Oct 30,1951 - May 16, 2018 Marion was born in Edmonton, Alberta, the first child of James and Barbara McGillivray. Her father was a banker and following the birth of her sister Janie, the family was transferred to Vancouver where Marion began school and developed her life long talent of gathering good friends around her. The family was transferred to Winnipeg where highlights were, the never to be forgotten medal in speed skating and seeing Burton Cummings and the Guess Who perform at school sock-hops. Due to the nature of her Dad's job, summers at the cabin in Jasper were an annual tradition, remembered with affection all her life. The family was transferred back to Vancouver in 1967 where Marion attended Churchill followed by UBC with a one year sabbatical backpacking around Europe in 1971. Following graduation, Marion started working for the Royal Bank and so began her successful career in finance. Not enough can be said about her love of her job and in particular, her mentoring of young people. She had high expectations but her management style engendered real affection and loyalty from her staff, many of whom have visited her in the last weeks.Travel remained a passion with trips to Italy, Holland, Spain, Portugal and Mexico being special memories. In the last few years, girls trips to Palm Springs have been highly anticipated breaks in her busy schedule. A devoted mother, Marion was dedicated to her children's happiness. Watching Jamie play soccer and baseball were cherished memories as were Jessica's years of horseback riding.

In April Marion was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. The short but brutal fight ended on May 16, five weeks later. Survived by her loving husband Len, her beloved children Jamie and Jessica, her sister Janie and dearly loved niece Katie (Tom and Kason) and friends too numerous to count. A life well-lived but cut cruelly short. A celebration of Marion will be held in the summer. Flowers gratefully declined but donations to Pancreatic Cancer research would be sincerely appreciated.

My prayers are with her family. I did not know Marion, but I certainly know of the pain of loss by way of pancreatic cancer. I lost a brother in 3 weeks to it as well. So sudden, so tragic.

I met Marion many years ago at a banking function. I remember her as a dedicated professional within our industry, she also had a great sense of humour, a warm welcoming smile, and was respected by all that knew her. My thoughts are now with her family, and as said in a previous post, I believe Marion will always walk beside, and watch over her loved ones.

As long time friends and neighbours this has shocked and saddened us. Our families grew together for 25 years and I have such wonderful memories of all our kids playing in the "neighbourhood gang" Marion was a wonderful person to have as a next door neighbour. What a loss for everyone who knew her. Sending love to Len, Jamie and Jessica.

I am so shocked and saddened to hear of Marion's passing. Marion hired me at First National in 2009 and worked there for many years. She exemplified the perfect balance between being the ultimate leader and having fun. My best working days were under her leadership. Marion talked of her family often and fondly.
Those we love don't go away, they walk beside us everyday. Unseen, unheard, but always near;still loved, still missed and very dear. Anonymous

So sad to hear this news. My heartfelt thoughts go out to all Marion's family and close friends. I met Marion in the financial world, she was Manager of First National and I was working at CMHC. Enjoyed a great client relationship with (before retiring) as well as many shared laughs and stories of the industry and families over lunches, at events and conferences. She was funny, kind and a straight shooter, which I appreciated immensely. Taken far too soon for sure but will be remembered by the people she touched in all walks of her life forever.

I have such a heavy heart and am so sad. Marion and I had a wonderful friendship for many years. We had years of laughter, fun, joy, and a great friendship. Marion was one of a kind... Len, and the children, I am thinking about all of you. I will cherish every second I had with your wonderful wife and mother. Lots of love

So sorry to hear of your great loss.. First met Marion when she was a teller at RBC - Hornby and Nelson. Over the years would run into her and after leaving the bank she would golf with us ( asking us for our referrals ). A lovely lady who we always enjoyed spending time with. She had a wonderful smile and was fun to spend time with her. Good times. I had also worked with her dad at RBC, many years ago. Rest in peace Marion.
