Marion Zambon Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 16, 2024.

Marion Pratt Zambon, 80, of Groton, VT, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 12, 2024, surrounded by her family. She had been courageously fighting a rare neurodegenerative disease called Lambert-Eaton Syndrome. She was the widow of the late Carl Zambon, love of her life, married for 45 years.

Born on July 28, 1944, in Hartford, she was the daughter of the late John M. and Barbara (Brandt) Pratt.

She grew up in West Hartford, and met her husband Carl at the University of Hartford where she studied Art. They married in 1965 and raised four children on a farm in Salem, CT. The family moved to a larger farm in Groton, VT, where three of Marion's sister's children soon joined the clan.

Marion spent her spare time tending vegetable gardens, milking the cow, leading the Girl Scout troop, taking epic cross-country family trips and camping with Carl and the kids. She climbed Mt. Washington and was known for baking award-winning pies.

She worked for many years as a bookkeeper at Wells River Savings Bank and retired from the bank in 2010.

Above all, Marion loved to sing her entire life, and was a member of the church choir at The Universalist Church in West Hartford, and the Wells River Congregational Church in Wells River, VT. She was a member of the North Country Chorus, where she travelled to Europe multiple times to sing in cathedrals. She attended a Choir Camp each summer at Ogontz White Mountain Resort in New Hampshire.

Marion earned a yellow belt in Tae Kwon Do and was breaking boards at age 75.

She enjoyed attending Classic Car Shows with Carl and his 1960 Cadillac Fleetwood, and even became a Car Show judge.

Marion was a Deacon of the Wells River Congregational Church and helped run their Food Shelf.

Marion loved to travel, visiting Alaska, Canada, Europe, taking annual trips to Key West, cruising the Caribbean and much more. Most recently she organized unforgettable family trips to Ireland and to Oregon.

She is survived by her four children, Cheryl Fitzgerald and husband Shawn, Robin Furniss and husband Steve, Erik Zambon and partner Felicia Webster, Roxanne Tapley and husband Barry; along with children who she helped raise, her niece, Christina Anderson and husband Scott, nephew Kevin DuPont and wife Cathy, nephew, Matthew DuPont and wife Jennifer.

Marion is survived by her siblings, Bianca DuPont, John Pratt Jr., and Barbara Moore. She is also survived by a cousin who was like a sister to her, Ellen Stewart.

Marion had eight grandchildren, plus many more grandchildren and great grandchildren in the extended family.

A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 14th from 2 pm to 4 pm at the Carmon Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Avenue, Windsor, CT 06095. In lieu of flowers, Marion's family requests that you please consider sending memorial donations in her memory to the Wells River Congregational Church, Attn: Memorial Funds Treasurer, P.O. Box 368, Wells River, VT 05081.

I knew Marion from her time in college and double dated throughout their courting. Had the privilege of being best man at her wedding in 1965 and have fond memories of the Salem farm. Marion was truly a special person a I just became aware of her passing.
