Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 4, 2023.
Mark Kenneth Chang-Gagnon, 52, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, February 3, 2023, at The Keck Hospital of USC.

Mark was born on July 10, 1970, in Weymouth, Massachusetts. He married his beloved wife Saeyoung Chang-Gagnon in 2019, living an enriched life together in Los Angeles, California. He leaves as his legacy, two children Allison and Andrew, as well as his stepdaughters Stella & Hana. He also leaves to cherish his memory his parents, Patsy & Kenny Gagnon, of Westborough, MA; two siblings, Karen Sullivan and her children Owen & Luke and Chris Gagnon, his wife Andrea and their children Ave, Allegra, and Levi, along with numerous loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Mark devoted his life to the culinary arts as a chef and executive. He was passionate about bringing joy to people through food and culinary experiences. As a life-long leader and mentor in his trade, Mark graduated from The Culinary Institute of America in 1990, he had the honor of being a featured chef at the esteemed James Beard House in February 2004. Most recently, he received his MBA from University of Southern California - Marshall School of Business.

He was an avid surfer who loved spending time traveling to beaches around the world, riding his motorcycle (especially in the Distinguished Gentlemans ride), and enjoying music. Mark was a proud mentor in all aspects of his life, professionally, spiritually, and personally. Love for his family and his deep faith were at the core of his life.

A Celebration of Life is scheduled for Monday February 6th from 5pm to 8pm PST at Tapestry LA Church, followed by Fellowship. The event will also be livestreamed, beginning at 5 PM PST using this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VU7B0Zt2kQg

Just heard that Mark passed away from my mom, and wanted to say that I have memories of Mark from our childhood in Westboro, as the Gagnons lived behind us. I hope this makes you laugh...on a few occasions, Mark and I waved at each other from our respective bedroom windows as we snuck cigarettes. I also remember the Gagnon dog plowed me over as a kid! I wish I'd known Mark as an adult. He seems to have lived such an interesting and varied life. My sincere condolences.

It was a pleasure to serve alongside of Mark in Gospel Care. I still remember the day he asked if he could complete the GC training before the next year´s training, and I immediately made time for him. Now knowing Mark wouldn´t have made it to the new training this year. Although Scott and I were leading the training, it felt like we were all learning from each other´s lived experience. To hear that Mark was able to find live in the midst of suffering through a selfless and altruistic act of listening and journeying alongside of someone longing for change and growth is so beautiful. Mark will forever be a tangible example of the life of Christ - a man who choose to live life fully by making time to bring healing, warmth, and a full belly to others.
I will miss you and know that Saeyoung and your family are in good hands.

- Much Love,
Nathan Flores

Dear Saeyoung,
Your time with Mark was way too short, while love knows not the bounds of time, space or depth.

May your hearts soon be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well lived.
