Mark Eyre Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 24, 2024.
Mark Henry Eyre, age 75, passed away on August 13, 2024 in Lancaster, Ohio.

Mark was born on February 10, 1949, in Long Branch, New Jersey to David and Grace Eyre. During his time on this earth, he spent time all across the country and had a ton of crazy stories (and scars) to show for it. When he met his wife Karin, he knew immediately that he would marry her, and he told her that. He loved her fiercely.

Mark was a husband, a father, a grandfather, an uncle, a veteran, a cowboy, a lineman, a business owner, an animal lover, and an all around force. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Ann Halsey; his twin brothers, Michael Eyre and Timothy Eyre; and his older brother David Eyre. He is survived by his wife Karin D. Eyre, his daughters Rachel (Mark) Troutman and Erica (Brian) Stover; his grandchildren Mackenzie, Luke, and Evan; pets Rip, Rosie, Lilly, and Elvis; and numerous nieces, nephews, and loved ones around the country.

Mark was the strongest but the silliest, a fierce protector of his family, and he had a huge heart -- especially for people who were down on their luck. His strength and generosity influenced his daughters immeasurably: his daughter Rachel went on to law school to become a public defender fighting for indigent death row inmates and those wrongly convicted of crimes, and his daughter Erica spends her free time volunteering in animal shelters, vocally standing up for society's underdogs, and marching or raising money for just causes.

Mark loved dogs, and on more than one occasion, he came home with a dog that he'd come across that had been mistreated and added them to the family of dogs at home. Living peacefully on acres upon acres of property was his goal, which he reached, and he and Karin filled it with dogs, cats, horses, donkeys, chickens, ducks, and all the birds that would flock to their feeders.

Mark truly loved life, and being surrounded by family at home while drinking "a cold beer" was his happy place.

A celebration of Mark's life will be held on Saturday, October 19 at 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Gahanna Parks and Recreation Clubhouse, 220 Olde Ridenour Road, Gahanna OH 43230. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Lewy Body Dementia Association (www.lbda.org) or the Hocking County Humane Society (hockingcountyhumanesociety.com).

I had the privilege to help Mark and care for him , and it definitely was a privilege. Mark ended up being my closest buddy , always being his rotten self , he kept me on my toes. He definitely made this world a better place and taught me a lot with our conversations , I am so blessed that I got to be able to get to know Mark , Karin and Rachel... He was truly an exceptional man .

My dad used to always take my sister and I out in nature when we would spend time together. Even if it just meant a tent in the backyard to sleep in. I always felt special when he would take us to an illegal "swimming hole" as he called it. My sister and I would stay close to the edge in the shallow end while playing in the water and dad would hold his breath for the longest time and would pop up at the other side. We only went there a handful of times, but that memory stays with me.
