Mark Isely GERMANN

Mark Isely Germann, 75, of The Villages, FL, passed away, Thursday, March 23, 2017, at Elan Spanish Springs Memory Care in The Villages, FL. Mark was born August 25, 1941 in Nemaha County, Kansas, to Henry and Juanita Germann. He attended school in Fairview, Kansas and graduated from Hiawatha High School in Hiawatha, Kansas.



He graduated from the University of Kansas, with distinction, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. He obtained his private pilot license and became an airline pilot for TWA. He retired from American Airlines after 35 years, August 25, 2001.

He farmed and raised cattle on his farm in Lawson, MO. He was a substitute teacher at Lawson High School in Lawson, MO, and the Job Corp in Excelsior Springs, MO. He moved trucks cross-country in his free time, and was a real estate broker. Mark married Sidonia Marie Moore on June 15, 1963, in Hiawatha, Kansas. They were married for 53 years.



He is survived by a son, Matthew, and daughter-in-law, Kristen Germann of Yorba Linda, California; and a daughter, Mandy Propst of Branson West, MO. He is also survived by a brother, Michael, and sister-in-law Vicki Germann of Lawrence, Kansas. He is survived by two granddaughters, Tiffany Propst Robinson of Maryville, MO, and Mattie Germann of USAF Academy, CO, and grandson, Tyler Germann of San Diego, California. Mark was preceded in death by his parents, and a twin brother, Malcolm Germann.



Mark’s hobbies were flying his Piper Cherokee airplane, fishing, boating, and hunting. He enjoyed all sports and competed in Senior Olympic Games for many years. He was a runner and competed in 5ks, half marathons, and marathons. His love of softball brought him to The Villages in 2007, where he was a pitcher for 9 ½ years. He played golf when he wasn’t at the ballfield. After retiring, he enjoyed traveling, especially on ocean and riverboat cruises.



He was a member of the United Christian and Presbyterian Church and Masons in Lawson, MO. He sponsored youth group trips at his church in Lawson, and was active with the Boy Scouts, attending Boy Scout Camp in the summer, where he acquired the nickname “Duke”.

He belonged to the University of Kansas Alumni Association, and attend KU Watch group to cheer on the Kansas Jayhawk’s basketball team. He also enjoyed the Central States Club in The Villages.
