Mark HALLQUIST Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 12, 2012.

HALLQUIST, Mark N.
Mark N. Hallquist, 43, of East Hartford, passed away suddenly on Saturday, (December 8, 2012) at Salmon River State Forest in Marlborough. Mark was doing what he loved, hunting deer with his best friends, who heroically tried to save his life. His last words entering the woods, was a joke with laughter and his famous "Mark smile" on his face. Mark was born on March 17, 1969 in Hartford, a son of Elizabeth "Betty" J. (Hill) Hallquist of East Hartford and the late Donald E. Hallquist, Sr. Mark was a life-long resident of East Hartford and a graduate of East Hartford High School, Class of 1987. Mark was an auto mechanic for many years and had been employed by AMR Ambulance Company, West Hartford for over the past 18 years as one of their mechanics. Mark was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing with his buddies. He loved his MOPAR vehicles, especially his Plymouth Barracuda. He also enjoyed his Sunday afternoons and evenings watching football and barbequing with his friends. Living at home with his mother, Mark especially enjoyed his mornings with a cup of coffee with her as they both worked on solving "SODUKO" and other word puzzles. Besides his father, Mark was predeceased by a brother, Douglas W. Hallquist of East Hartford. Along with his beloved mother, Betty, Mark is survived by two brothers, Donald E. Hallquist, Jr. and his wife, Marie, of East Hartford, Scott D. Hallquist and Kerin of Enfield; and his twin sister, Linda J. Libardi and her husband, Robert, of Glastonbury. He also leaves two aunts, Virginia Bedat of Stratford, Louise Hill of New Britain; several special nieces and nephews, Amanda "Mandy", Jessica, Matthew, Solange, Zack, Mariah, James "Jimbo"; and many dear close friends.
A memorial service celebrating Mark's life will be Friday (December 14th) at 4 p.m. at South Congregational Church, 1301 Forbes Street, East Hartford with Rev. Al Turner officiating. Private burial will be held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mark's name may be made to the South Congregational Church, 1301 Forbes Street, East Hartford, CT 06118. The D'ESOPO-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford has been entrusted with the care of the funeral arrangements. I think of Mark a lot thru the years.. Mark was truly one of the Best friends a person could ask for.. Whenever I pulled into shield St. At AMR Mark would be standing in the doorway of the mechanics bay wiping a wrench waiting for you to tell him what was wrong with the Ambulance. If nothing was wrong (which was most of the time) Mark would just break out in this smile that would turn any bodies bad day good. (Which in our business was a lot). Mark was a great guy.and I cherish the time I got to know him.. I think of and speak of him often..

I met mark a few times... The last time I saw him was at the Nickelback concert in April. I told my brother in law to invite him because I thought he was funny and I wanted fun people in the skybox. We joked around and it was just a great nite with great people, enjoying great music. R.I.P Mark.

Mark, you made light of some tough work days and you bailed me (and so many others) out of tight spots and malfunctioning trucks. You even managed to pull some fast ones on me when I was new. I was deeply saddend to hear of your passing. AMR just isn't the same and it never will be. You kept us safe by holding our ambulances together - and now we can only hope you'll be a guardian for us out on the road. Keep us on our toes my friend. We miss you.

My thoughts and prayers are with your family during this time.

To the Hallquist family, Mark was a great, kind soul and could light up a room - but im sure you are well aware of that. Try to take comfort knowing he was doing what he loved right til the end. I strongly believe he is with you all, always. I am grateful for all of the help he provided me and my coworkers - he was a lifesaver himself on many occasions. Thank you for giving the world such a great person.

Dear Mrs Hallquist, Donald, Scott, Linda and Family ~

Karen Cummiskey and I would talk about Marks smile and how it reminded us sooo much of my brother Bobby's..

He was a great guy with a warm heart, he always had that amazing smile going on, was filled with funny comments, and he took the time to listen to you!!!

Rest is peace Mark Hallquist..

Life is but a stopping place a pause in what's to be, a resting place along the road to sweet eternity.

We all have different journey's different paths along the way, we all were meant to learn some things but never meant to stay...

Our destination is a place far greater then we know, for some the journey's quicker, for some the journey's slow.

And when the journey finally ends, we'll claim a great reward and find an everlasting peace together with the Lord........

I was the first person Mark saw when he came through the doors of the building 18 years ago and got the application to work with us and I'll never forget the day; he came in with the biggest smile on his face, and had that same smile every day that I worked with him. What a wonderful, special guy he was. There was nothing he would not do for any of us, we could all count on him and I looked forward to seeing him at 3:00 pm every day. I'll miss his smile and his kind way. God bless your family at this sad time.
