I didn't know Dr. Lanier very well, but I was a patient of his, and went to school and graduated with his son Logan. He was a great doctor and a great man and I was saddened greatly to hear that a man of his stature was taken from us so early in life, although I know he has gone to a greater place. My condolences go to his family, and I pray that they are able to carry on his legacy and coninue to live life greatly as he did.

Leslie, Mark and I visited last monday during my eye exam. We caught up with Preston, and Logan and Will and JT. He talked about how Preston and Logan were so close and how proud he was of both of his boys. He said you were working too hard and he was worried about you. He loved his family so much. I asked about you and he asked about Bill, he encouraged me in my new position, he always was concered about others, he is a man of God and I will miss him. I am at my National conference and will not be there tomorrow. I so wish I could get there in time to be with you. Bill and I will be with you in spirit and will continue to pray for you and the boys and the family. May our God in Heaven sustain you and hold you during this time. Love, Bill and Patti Goodrum

Lanier family,
your loss is such a tragedy and I pray for God's loving arms to embrace each of you at this overwhelming time. What an honor to know that your husband and father was so well respected in this community! He was my doctor for many years and always showed great compassion and genuine concern. He was superb at his craft, but more importantly, was a tremendous human being with much integrity.
Draw your strength from one another and the peace and comfort that only the Holy Spirit can provide.

In Your book were written every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there were none of them. Ps. 139:16

Westminster Shorter Catechism Q37:
What benefits do believers receive from Christ at death?
A37: The souls of believers are at their death made perfect in holiness, and do immediately pass into glory; and their bodies, being still united to Christ, do rest in their graves, till the resurrection.
Q38:What benefits do believers receive from Christ at the resurrection?
A38: At the resurrection, believers, being raised up in glory, shall be openly acknowledged and acquitted in the day of judgment, and made perfectly blessed in the full enjoying of God to all eternity.

Laniers, you are all in our thoughts and prayers; we are blessed to have known Mark.

Dr. Lanier was our family eye doctor.. I was going to Dr. Stockwell when he came and had been going since then. When my sons needed him I took them. Dear Family:
We cannot tell you how shocked and saddened we are to hear of Dr. Lanier's death. We just saw him on Monday morning when I had my annual eye exam. As usual, he was as caring and wonderful as he always had been in the past. I will never forget how kind and thoughtful he was when I would take my mother for her appointments several years ago. She could not walk well and could not talk at all, but he took time and great effort with her each time she went to see him. She has been gone for three years now, but his kindness to her will never be forgotten by me. I cannot even imagine going to another eye doctor. We will go to someone else, but no one can ever replace him. He was special. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this time of your tragic loss.

My family and I are so sorry to hear about Dr. Lanier's sudden death. What a wonderful eye Dr he was!
Years ago, when my youngest son was under a year old, he was learning to walk, fell, and hit his eye. He had a pretty big gash. I was so worried that he would need stitches. It was Christmas Eve, or around that time, and his pediatrician was out of the office. I called Dr. Lanier's office and he was just about to leave to go to a Christmas party. He told me that if I could be there in 15 minutes, he'd wait. Well, I live more than 15 minutes from town, but drove in and he did wait for us. He looked at my son's eye and determined that everything was fine. He did not rush us, or make us seem like an inconvenience. That's the kind of man he was. He'll be truly missed. Our prayers go out to his wife and sons.

Dr. Lanier was my doctor for years. He was just the best! No matter where I moved in East Texas, I made the drive to 'doches to see him. That only changed about a year and a half ago when my husband I moved to Anchorage, Alaska. Finally, it was just a bit too far to travel.

I will always remember him fondly. He took such good care of me. I remember calling him from Tyler once -- It was near the end of the work day and I was in a panic because I had lost a contact in my eye. Nothing I did was making the situation any better. I called his office. They tried to put someone else on the phone to help me, but I knew it had to be Dr. Lanier. He talked to me in that calm voice and told me what to do (which worked, by the way). But the most amazing thing was he gave me his home phone number -- just in case it didn't work. He told me I could call him and he would meet me at his office.

I couldn't have asked for a kinder man or a better doctor. I emailed him shortly after we moved here -- to tell him how much I appreciated him and all he had done for me. I'm so glad I did that.

My love and prayers go out to all of you who knew him, worked with him, and loved him. He is missed already.

I am so sorry to hear of Mark's sudden death. He was a wonderful person who touched so many lives with his goodness and kindness. He was a good friend and a great Doctor. I miss him deeply already and I can only imagine the heartbreak you feel. I wish I could find words that would relieve your pain, but I cannot imagine what they are. May you find strength, understanding and comfort in the days ahead and know you are surrounded with caring thoughts and love.
Please accept my deepest sympathy,

He was a very kind and caring Doctor that was and had been very attentive to his patients. One would have had to been his patient to understand. His loss will be felt by Nacogdoches and surrounding counties... To Leslie and family, may you feel God hands carrying you through this difficult time.
