Mark Lipman Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Oct. 23 to Oct. 24, 2014.
Lipman, M.D. Mark Lee
Mar. 8, 1957 - Oct. 20, 2014
Mark Lee Lipman, M.D. was born to Arthur and Kayleen Lipman March 8, 1957, in Chicago. Mark grew up in Miami, FL. He attended the University of Florida for his undergraduate degree and attended medical school at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. Mark married Michele Morvillo in Miami on June 1, 1986, and they lived most of their 28 years of marriage in Sarasota, FL.
Mark was one of the co-founders of Infectious Disease Associates at Sarasota Memorial Hospital. He was greatly loved at the hospital by fellow coworkers and patients. He was very passionate about his work and was constantly improving to provide the very best care for his patients.
Mark loved the outdoors and activities involving the outdoors such as camping, hiking, tennis, SCUBA diving, and sailing.
Above all, Mark put his family before everything. He would do anything for his family, and his children wish all of the kids in the world were as fortunate to have a daddy as extraordinary as Mark.
Mark is survived by wife, Michele, two children, Mathew and Malorie, mother, Kayleen, and two brothers, Stuart and Craig.
He is loved and will be dearly missed.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, October 26, 2014 at 1:00 at Phillippi Estate Park: 5500 S Tamiami Trail.

Mark was a friend from Med School at Vanderbilt, a tough time for all of us but he handled it with a a great attitude. You could tell he would be the kind of guy you'd want to have as your own doctor. I was very sorry to hear of his passing but looks like he fulfilled his potential we could all see back in Nashville to become a great physician and family man. Reading through the comments I can see he was greatly loved and respected by all. Im using this sad event to inspire myself to be as he was.... fun and compassionate , a helper to all. So long Mark, great job buddy.

Michele and Family, Jan and I were deeply saddened upon learning of Mark's passing from the Vanderbilt Medical School Alumni Association. We feel greatly for your loss, but we can at least take joy in the remembrance of what a great man Mark was and our gratitude for his friendship and generosity.
Mark was as good a friend as anyone could ever ask for. We first met Mark at Dean Chapman's welcoming party for new med students before classes began over 35 years ago. He was always friendly and outgoing, upbeat and full of good humor throughout all the hardships, challenges and long hours.
He worked hard, but shared our desire to make every opportunity to get away and have fun when we could. I have so many great memories of all the adventures and fun times we had together: hiking, skiing, spelunking, canoeing, exploring, class sports activities, etc.
We are so grateful for the chance to visit you guys during our Florida visit a few years back.
We'll miss Mark greatly.

Mark was a spectacular physician and clearly a man that cherished his family and enjoyed life outside of the hospital. Although I did not know Mark outside of work, he spoke often and fondly about his children. The picture gallery says it all. I had lost touch with Mark since he retired and I didn't realize that his health had deteriorated so quickly. I regret not reaching out. Mark was always available to discuss a difficult patient and offer his assistance. He was a treasure and will be missed greatly.

Michele, Thank you so much for sharing the personal photos of your and Mark's life together. It is a side of him that I did not get to see. It warms me to know what a full life you all have had together. The only regret..not long enough. We all have been blessee by his presence and I look forward to seeing you again rounding on 7WT. Dear Michele, Mal,and Matman- as your Dad so lovingly referred to you. You see, I know this because I've had the pleasure of working with him- Dr.Mark Lipman- who would frequently say "just call me Mark", for as long as 20 years-5 days a week at SMH. He got to know us very well and we him. When You Michele, or the kids would call Mark on his cell phone,he would look down at the #, then smile, and immediately take your call as if you were the most important call on the earth. Well to him- you guys certainly were!
Oh how I wanted to speak yesterday at Mark's service-but couldn't control my tears enough to speak, with the pain of missing him so, and all the great pictures of him around me!!
You see Dr. Mark Lipman was everything to us ALL at "The Center For Wound Healing". He was our Founder, our Leader, our Colleague, and most of all OUR FRIEND! We are all so closely knit in our Little corner of SMH. He treated us and referred to us as his 2nd family--And we were! We felt the same way about him.
Mark never thought of himself as anything more than just one of the GANG. He made sure that he attended all of our unit meetings-offering all he had to help us, our unit, or whatever we needed. Often he had to go head to head with Corporate to fight to keep our unit running! He knew how hard we all worked, and wanted his Patients discharged early to treat them on a outpatient basis-keeping the Hospital costs down-but still providing top-notch care. Perhaps on the books, we weren't money makers-we saw alot of non-insured, BUT we certainly were money-savers, as Dr. Lipman put it.
Outside the Unit, he came to all of our get to-gethers- whether it be a birthday party ,baby shower,Holiday party, ect., especially the annual Christmas Party- were he came up with such unique/thoughtful gifts for us all! 1 year He even handmade us clocks out of starfish that he collected, it was awesome. He was sooo special to us -The Real Deal-.

I never really thought of him being re-tired from us,... just resting and planning for his next move...getting well for future-THE TRANSPLANT! And hopefully feeling better enough to come back to work one day?
When I heard that the lungs were available to him-I rejoiced, and when I heard that he made it through the surgery I rejoiced, BUT when I heard that he was Taken from us-I felt numb, the universe had stopped,I didn't understand,I had to process this! It can't be! No, it is not suppose to end like this!! Not for his Family, not for us!
Mat and Malorie, you both did an awesome job describing your Dad, and what he has meant to you! It was beautiful-he certainly would of been smiling ear to ear at that moment!
Michele you are 1 of a kind. Mark loved you so. Often I would hear him on the phone say "Hi Darling, how is your day going?" It made me smile.
I don't know why he was taken from us so soon? Maybe he had done what he had been sent to do--"Make us All Better People by his Examples, his Love." I am so lucky to have known you,as a MD,and just a regular guy with a loving family. The CWH has been a wonderful place to work, thanks to you!
God Bless You Dr. Lipman, I Love You and will always Miss you!

Dr. Lipman was responsible for giving my Dad an additional 21 years of life. It was 1989, Dad was suffering from an acute headache so to SMH we went. Through Dr Lipman's brilliance, it was determined that Dad was suffering from a subdural empyema. A most unusual and many times fatal disease. Through kindness, patience, compassion and knowledge Dr. Lipman stayed with us through the night and was literally the quarterback of a team of professionals who orchestrated magnificent medical care. We will be eternally grateful for an outstanding man. Our sincere condolences and prayers are extended to the Lipman family. Sincerely,

Dr. Lipman. I thank you for all the help you gave to me both in the hospital and at the Center. You are one of a Kind with your great help in getting better and with such class. Your first comment when he came in the room, What Can I Do for You.
To the family, I'm sure you are going to miss him greatly, but keep in mind what a great Doctor who always was first class for so many patients.
I won't put my name because I feel every person he dealt with feels the same way.
My prayers are with you all in this time of morning.

I remember the first time I met Mark at the VA medical Center in Miamai. I was working there with his future wife and my best friend Michele on one of the medical wards. Michele and I were new grads from nursing school at Barry University. It was 1984 during the AIDS crisis. I remember Mark being so knowledgeble and calm. He was also kind, approachable and generous in sharing that knowledge. And when he did you could see it was his passion.Mark had a great sense of humor. He loved nature and the outdoors.
My love and heart goes out to you Michele, Malorie and Mat. I will always treasure the memories I have of our times together.

Hey Big Brother!
I know religion wasn't your priority, and we never got to discuss your perceptions of what happens now?! If there was a Mark heaven, you'd be there, comfortably in charge, watching over your family with a computer screen nearby, willing to intervene and assist with all the challenges that your friends and family so often turn to you for help with; for as the traveling gets stormy, you were always an amazing support to turn to and to lean upon! You were lucky and gifted to be surrounded with such gems of Love, as Michele, Mal & Mat. The Universe seems a shade greyer, less comforting, less secure, with your absence. But I know that's the illusion. Like a ships captain, you pointed all of those, those you Loved & cared for, towards our best directions, guiding us on our safest course! I just never realized how lonely it would seem, without seeing you still at your Helm! Your Legacy, is in those you have guided. So many amazing journeys, continue, pointed towards destinies, you graciously and skillfully guided us towards.
Forever grateful, and humbled.... middle lips, you brother Stuart.
