Mark Paulsen

Mark J. Paulsen, 69 passed away peacefully on December 5, 2024, in Santa Barbara, CA. He was born in Milwaukee, WI to Roger P. Paulsen and Mary J. Paulsen. Mark grew up in the Milwaukee area and attended Marquette University High School. Following high school, Mark studied biochemistry at Harvard University before embarking on his life-long love of travel. He spent three years travelling in various locations within the Asia Pacific before moving to Bali, Indonesia where he spent about 9 years. He and his new Bali friends began a company called Space Islands Light Industry (S.I.L.I.), a very successful unique clothing company. Mark and his new business partners sold their one of a kind items to hundreds of high-end boutiques and department stores in the U.S. and overseas. He met wonderful friends during this time and later loved sharing many stories of his great adventures and experiences.

Following his return to the U.S. in 1986 he used his exceptional "smarts" and hard work ethic to have a pioneering thirty-plus year career within the silicone medical device industry. He was an expert in silicone technology from concept to commercialization, gaining respect from competitors and peers alike.

Mark loved living in Santa Barbara and was proud of his beautiful home. He had many hobbies including photography, swimming, Himalayan Trekking, puttering around the yard, exercise, yoga, listening to all kinds of music, cheering on the Green Bay Packers and the Milwaukee Bucks, and, likely most of all entertaining and spending time with his many wonderful friends from around the world. Mark will be deeply missed by so many, especially his siblings Jean Hymer (Fiancé, Keith), Curtis (Wendy) Paulsen, Julie (Dennis) Pommering, Janet (Douglas) Miller and Nic (Jessica) Paulsen. We will miss you mate!! The family will hold a private memorial.
