Marla Vee Turner, 67, passed away quickly and peacefully in the arms of her husband of 44 years on April 7, 2023, at her home in Fort Worth, Texas.
Marla was born on March 31, 1956, in Lawton, Oklahoma, to Ted and Verna Savage. As the daughter of Baptist Missionaries most of her childhood was spent on the mission field in Zambia, Africa.
She graduated from Pampa High School in 1974 and was a classically trained pianist and earned her degree in Music Education from Midwestern State University in 1978. She started her career as a Music Teacher and went on to work for 45 years as a private piano and voice teacher and for 10 years as music teacher at Fort Worth Academy.
Marla married Donald Turner on May 20, 1978, at Central Baptist Church in Pampa, Texas. The couple had four children: Scott, Samara, Shad, and Sharon.
Marla was best known for her weekly home Bible study of 30 years, her frequent teaching at A Neighborhood Church in Fort Worth, and for her legendary home made, stone ground "Marla Bread/Gammy Bread."
Marla is preceded in death by her father and mother Ted and Verna Savage.
Marla is survived by her spouse, Donald Turner; brother Michael and wife Deanna Savage, sister, Michelle and husband Kent Edlin. Proud mother and mother-in-law of Scott and Jessica Turner, Samara and Steven Keller, Shad and Katie Turner; and Sharon Turner. She was the proud Gammy of Aliyah and Dakoda, Joshua, Maya, Evangeline, Kenna, Emma, Noah, Rhythm, Coda, Canon, and great granddaughter Denver Sky.
The service for Mrs. Marla Turner will be held on Saturday, April 15, at 1:00 PM at The Church at Benbrook.
To honor her dedication and passion for music we have created the Marla Turner Lower School Music Designated Fund. Gifts made to this fund will go to enhance the Fort Worth Academy music program. If you would like to donate, please Click Here

Heart felt condolences to the Savage and Turner families for your loss. Marla was a childhood friend at Mufulira Central Baptist Church here in Zambia. I hold very good memories of her and her siblings Michael and Michelle, and of course her parents Ted and Verna Savage. Jon Levi Kaunda, from Zambia.

I went to school in Altus with Marla. She was my favorite friend. I don´t think she would say she had a best friend. She was a friend to everyone. Her family moved before our senior year snd I list track id her. No Facebook back then. I have looked for her and asked about her throughout my life as we shared much love. I never knew her married name was Turner. I recently joined Ancestry snd realized I might be able to find her. So now I have missed her but I have some pictures and stories. Michael might remember me, we share a birthday. Leah Lamar (Nellis)

My heart goes out to your family in deepest sympathy. Marla was a wonderful person and truly a bright light in the life of our school. I met her just a little while before I retired and I knew our music department and FWA´s children were in excellent hands, as her sweetness and kindness shone through. May sweet memories and your love of our almighty God bring you comfort.
