Martha J. Abner, 81, Medora, passed away at 6:46 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, at her residence.
Martha was a member of Brownstown Christian Church. She loved antiques, needlepoint and quilting. She was employed at Medora Plastics and Amoco Plastics (Silgan) in Seymour for many years.
Born March 18, 1931, in Jackson County, she was the daughter of Charles Eli Shelton and Mary Elizabeth Fleenor Shelton, both of whom preceded her in death. On June 11, 1948, she married Charles William Abner Sr., who preceded her in death.
Survivors include children, Margaret Rouse (Nancy Ramsey), Carmel, and Charles Abner Jr., Pamela (David) Sims and Becky (Ron) Zirkel, all of Medora; nine grandchildren, Julie (Billy) Gorbett, North Vernon, Brad (Cindy) Holstine, Medora, Kim (Jason) Allman, Seymour, Holly Jo Abner, Lori Rae Abner, and Brandon (Erica) Fields, Bedford, Chris (Kim) Rouse, Clayton, Jenny Rouse, Carmel, and Jason (Marie) Weddell, Medora; 15 great-grandchildren, Ashleigh Smith, Bridgett Holstine, Brittany Holstine, Rebecca Holstine, Bradley Kocsis, Olivia Rouse, Keria Rouse, Andrew Allman, Christopher Allman, Alexander Whittbrod-Rouse, Jaeshawn Weddell, Megan Weddell, Jason T. Weddell Jr., Joshua Kelly and Gracelyn Fields; 12 great-great-grandchildren, Shaun Murphy, Leland, Melody and Chyara Smith, Brady Shelton, Kayden and Arianna Shunecker, Cody Johnson, Logan Edwards, Wesley Holstine, Haylee Sons and Kimberly Prewitt; and two brothers, Jerry Shelton, Freetown, and Joe Shelton, Seymour.
She was preceded in death by siblings, Myrtle Colwell, Mildred Hurley, Mary Wolters, Helen McFarlin, John, Sam, Grover and Waldo Shelton; and two grandchildren, Tammy Jo and Terry Jo Ferguson.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Medora Christian Church, with Pastor Bob Manuel officiating.
