Martha Estrada Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 5, 2025.
Our beloved mother, Martha Moreno Estrada, 81, of Austin, Texas, left us on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, to reunite with her Heavenly Father. A woman of warmth, strength, and a knack for bringing people together, Martha built a life filled with love, family, and a touch of well-placed chisme.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 58 years, Modest Estrada Jr; her children-David Estrada, Letty Miller, Modesto Estrada III, and Lydia Tambunga-along with a legacy carried forward by her beloved grandchildren: Maya Cochran, Meli Miller, Modesto Estrada IV, Eliana Estrada, Apolo Estrada, Enzo Estrada, and Alonzo Estrada. She also leaves behind her darling sister, Hortencia Sosa and her brother Dario Moreno as well as an extended network of family, friends, and a community that cherished her deeply.

Martha was preceded in death by her son, Jamie Estrada; her sister, Rosa Moreno; her brothers, Adalberto Moreno, Elderico Moreno, Ramon Moreno, Humberto Moreno, and Gregorio Moreno. Born the oldest daughter in a large family in Anáhuac, Mexico, she made the bold decision to move to the United States as a young woman, carving out a life of independence, resilience, and generosity. She spent most of her years in Austin, raising four children-and, truth be told, quite a few strays, both human and otherwise.

She lived with music in her heart, whether singing, dancing, or laughing in the kitchen. She loved to travel to visit her children, a cooking repertoire that never disappointed, and a seat at the table always ready for a friend with a good story. But above all, Martha found joy in her faith, her dear friends, and her cherished community at St. William's.

She was, in every sense, a force-a woman who lived fully, loved deeply, and left an imprint on every life she touched, as so they loved her too.

In lieu of flowers, please consider supporting Drive a Senior Northwest. A dedicated volunteer from this organization helped our beloved Mama by providing transportation to critical medical appointments, offering not only essential assistance to her but also invaluable support to our entire family.

The family would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Sociedades Guadalupanas, Mama's cherished sisterhood of faith. This remarkable group of women came together in prayer, conversation, and unwavering support, especially during the difficult times of her illness. They were her source of strength, her community, and her solace. Even now, in her passing, they continue to honor and uplift their beloved Guadalupana. For this, we are deeply grateful.

The family will host a Celebration of Life on Sunday, March 9, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at El Salido Park, 11500 Morning Glory Trail, Austin, TX 78750. Please join us as we come together to honor, remember, and share cherished memories of this beloved matriarch.

A Funeral Mass in loving memory of Martha Moreno Estrada will be held on Monday, March 10, 2025, at 10:00 AM at St. William Catholic Church, located at 620 Round Rock West Drive, Round Rock, TX 78681.

This Mass will be especially meaningful as it falls on what would have been our Mama's 82nd birthday. Family and friends are invited to join us in prayer and remembrance as we honor and celebrate her life on this significant day.

Thank you, Tia Martha, for sharing your love with us. I'll always cherish the time we spent cooking together, watching you make tortillas in your kitchen, the memories of us getting ready for cookouts and dinner out, sipping red wine with you, moments discussing what makes for the best tabbouleh.... Thank you for showing me how to use a French press, teaching me how to knit small scarves for my kiddos, and giving me all of the tricks and tips needed for working your old sewing machine. I will forever remember watching you pray a daily rosary when you came to visit, how happy you looked when you talked about your grandkids and kids, how your face lit up when you were with your sisters, your beautiful smile... I'll never forget how important you made us feel, how welcoming you always were, and how much you gave so effortlessly. Thank you, Tia, for loving us. For loving my kids, for loving our family, for loving life and for sharing so much of yourself with us. Until we meet again, Tia.
