Martha Green Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 18, 2017.
Martha Eugenia "Jean" Green, age 83 passed away peacefully on August 25,2017 in Houston, Texas

A visitation/reception to celebrate her life will be held at the event center at Winkenhofer Pineridge Funeral Home and Cemetery in Kennesaw on Sunday Sept. 24 from 1:00pm until 4:00pm. Interment will follow.

Jean was born in Atlanta, Georgia on April 23, 1934 to William H. and Jonnie B. Manning. She graduated from Brown High School in Atlanta in 1952 and then attended Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville, Georgia. She moved to Houston, Texas in 1963. While in Texas, she worked in the office of an elementary school and became president of the PTA. In 1974, she moved to the north Georgia Mountains and eventually found her way back to her real home of Kennesaw. Her never-met-a-stranger personality led to her being involved in volunteer community service activities. She was the Chairwoman of the Kennesaw Cemetery Preservation Commission where she helped secure one of the Commission's first state grants. She also did volunteer work for the city's Historic Preservation organization, for 31 years and held various officer titles during her membership. She loved the fund raising activities with her ESA sisters and truly enjoyed their friendship over the years. She also was very proud of her work for the cemetery and historic commissions of Kennesaw.

Jean is survived by her daughter Cathy Chance and husband Rick; grandchildren Robyn and Adam; brother William H. Manning Jr. and wife Marinell; numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Easter Seals or ESA, c/o Beverly Aldrich, P.O. 22 Forsyth, GA 31029
