When my sister, Jody, emailed me this morning about Marty´s passing, I was deeply saddened. Marty was a year behind me at OHS, but he was one of the first friends I knew in Oviedo, after having moved there from the Tampa Bay area. I also worked my very first job with him laying sod at a new home his father had built.
I recall Marty´s sense of humor and his contagious smile the most. He was nice and kind and I liked being around him.
The story that I think back on, though, was in the care-free summer of 1971, when Marty, Jay Goree, and I decided to "go camping." We didn´t really have any gear or knowhow, so we ended up just throwing our sleeping bags on the carpeted floor of an empty house that Ben Ward had up for sale. It was just down the street so we didn´t have to go to a whole lot of trouble.
My thoughts are with his family and with Sharon. I grieve with you.

My deepest sympathies to the Ward family. I haven´t seen Marty since high school or perhaps a reunion. But he left an impression on me, because he was always a gentleman, and a relaxed and a fun guy to be around. God bless you all and may his spirit live in through you. Marty´s mother became one of my moms dearest friends in Oviedo. She was proud of her wonderful kids including Marty. Sincerely Jane (Phillips) Provancha

Dear Ward Family,
We were shocked to see the obituary for Marty Ward in the Sentinel today. While we have not seen him for forty plus years he has never been far from mind and heart in all that time. He built the first and only house we ever owned and we lived in it happily for 36 years. He built it in Oviedo in 1980 when he was working for his Dad, Ben Ward, who was the developer for Whispering Oaks where we came to live. It was our dream of a house and brought us joy for all those many years. It was a sturdy and carefully crafted house with its five porches, cozy nooks and crannies and windows that looked out to the sky and trees. It may have been the first house that Marty built all on his own. He was around 25 at the time and a creative and skilled carpenter. Everything we could have desired in a house he was able to build into it. We had years of joy living in that house in the Whispering Oaks neighborhood and have always thanked Ben and Marty Ward for making those happy years possible. May your family be blessed for all the good you have brought to those who have benefited from knowing you.

When my family moved to Oviedo in 1972 the Ward family welcomed us with open arms. I remember Marty as a genuinely nice guy who always had a smile on his face. Marty´s family will be in my thoughts and prayers. May special memories of Marty be a comfort to his family & friends.

I am so heartbroken to hear of Marty´s passing. I will truly miss him. Always treated everyone like he´s known them his entire life. Such a great sense of humor and loved his family tremendously. His face always lit up when he talked about them. Heaven gained an angel but we lost a friend...until will meet again. Love - Jen

I knew Marty while attending college at Carson Newman in Tennessee. So many wonderful memories of our antics together and us Florida kids figuring out how to sled and manage the snow. Marty loved having fun, laughing and just enjoying life. Peace be with your family, I know you will be missed.

I haven't seen Marty in many years, but last bumped into him years ago when our kids were still in school. He truly was a great guy, from a great family. May God bless and comfort his family at this time of their loss. Rest in peace, Marty.

I am so sorry for this tremendous loss. Every time that I had the pleasure to be around Marty, he always had a big smile on his face and was quick to laugh at almost anything! I loved that about him! He will be sincerely missed but will live in my heart forever.
