Mary Ann Davis Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 2, 2022.

Mary Ann Davis age 91, of Havertown Pennsylvania and formerly of Palmerton, Pennsylvania passed away on November 29, 2022.

Mary Ann was born on September 22, 1931, to Paul Samuel Wertman and Mary Fritzinger in Palmerton. She graduated valedictorian from Palmerton High School, 1949, and Summa Cum Laude from Penn State University, 1953.  She was married to Dr. Thomas Griffith Davis, a dentist and professor at Temple.  They lived in Havertown, PA.  She was a teacher, and later while raising her family, she worked as a substitute.  As her kids grew up, she returned full-time to Haverford High School, retiring in her mid-sixties.  Mary Ann volunteered at local schools, including decorating elementary school bulletin boards, and collecting tickets at school sporting and social events into her eighties.  She loved sports, was a Penn State season ticket holder, an advocate of education, and was proud of her family’s and students’ accomplishments.

A hostess at heart, MA as her friends called her, loved entertaining, and always appreciated a good cocktail.  She loved playing bridge, poker, other card games, and was very competitive.  She was a diehard Penn Stater her entire life.  Her later years were spent with her “sweetie”, Ed Nicholson of Springfield, PA, and their companion Samantha the beagle. They spent winters in Pine Island, FL, and summers in the Poconos.  In her last months, Mary Ann was cared for by the wonderful staff at the Heritage House in Las Cruces, NM.   Loved by many, she will be missed!

MA is preceded in death by her parents, brother Edwin, husband Tom, sweetie Ed, and many others.  Beloved Gram is survived by her children Karin Hayes (Bill) of Danville, KY; Todd (Liz) of Andover, MA; Keith Davis of North Wales, PA, and Bryn Davis (Marcia) of Las Cruces, NM; her grandchildren, Morgan Hayes, Carter Hayes, Alex Davis, Dylan Davis, Oliver Davis, Darby Davis, and Thomas Davis; great- grandchildren, William Ellis, and Marion King.

A memorial service will be held at Collenbrook United Church, 5290 Township Line, Drexel Hill, PA 19026 on Monday December fifth at 10:30 am and private burial afterwards.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Condolences for your loss! I knew Mary Ann from playing Hand & Foot (cards) with Marcia last winter. She was quick witted and fun to be around! Such a great lady and she had a wonderful full life.

Already missing you, old friend. You and I had good times at Penn State, and great times at your Pocono house, your place in Pine Island, and at the 20+ week-long reunions with 6 other sorority sisters. The latter took place in resorts up and down the East Coast. You brought tasty recipes and wine for your turn at cooking, good ideas for our adventures and games, and fun and laughter to our marguerita-laced Happy Hours
I valued your friendship and admired your energy and determination to deal with the many curve balls life threw your way. Now it's time to rest.
Condolences to your family and your many friends

Dear Davis Cousins,
May the memories of your mom bring you comfort and laughter. I am forever grateful that I had the opportunity to talk with her about family history even though so late in her life. The lessons of life and realizing today is not promised. Blessings to all. The photo above I found in doing the family tree (a passion of mine).

Todd, your mom said that you may enjoy catching up. I never got your info. My email is [email protected]
