Mary Ann Zukowski Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 30, 2025.
With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Mary Ann Zukowski (née Prosser), who left this world surrounded by her loved ones after a courageous and hard-fought battle with cancer. She was 80 years old.

Mary Ann was born on May 26, 1945, in California to Ray and Mary Prosser and grew up in Glendora. Her warmth, intelligence, and gentle spirit were evident from a young age. While attending Citrus College in Glendora, she met her first husband, Ron Lacher, and soon began a life centered around family and love.

After working for the County of Los Angeles in a secretarial role, Mary Ann devoted herself fully to raising her two sons, Greg and Todd, in Anaheim Hills, California. She was a deeply involved and caring mother, known for her tireless dedication to the PTA and her unwavering support of her boys' sports and activities. Her home was always filled with encouragement, love, and laughter.

In the early 1990s, Mary Ann found love again and married Jim Zukowski. Together, they embarked on a journey around the world, living in Bahrain, London, Paris, South Korea, and Perth, Australia. These adventures only deepened their bond and enriched their lives.

In 2013, following Jim's retirement, the couple settled in their dream home in Arroyo Grande, California, where they built lasting friendships and became part of a vibrant community. Mary Ann and Jim enjoyed an active and joyful life together, spending summers at Sand Lake in Wisconsin, and filling their time with card games, pickleball, and most of all, doting on their cherished grandchildren.

Mary Ann's legacy lives on through her devoted husband Jim, her beloved sons Greg and Todd, and her adored grandchildren Samantha, Zoe, and Jace. She was a woman of grace, strength, and endless kindness - a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.

A memorial service to celebrate Mary Ann's life will be held at the Portuguese Hall of Arroyo Grande on Saturday, July 12 at 4:00pm. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations in Mary Ann's memory be made to the Jacquelyn Palchak Cancer Fund, either by mail at P.O. Box 1614, Pismo Beach, CA 93448 or online at www.palchakcancerfund.org/donate, in support of local families facing cancer with the same courage Mary Ann showed every day.

She will be missed deeply and remembered always.

I had the privilege of getting
to know Mary Ann while living in South Korea. A beautiful lady with so much charisma and flare. Mary Ann and Jim welcomed me with open arms and showed me in true style how to enjoy the life of an expat. I will be forever grateful for the time I shared with them creating fond memories. You both always made the extra effort to keep in touch for so many years after our time together. Rest in peace Mary Ann, you are loved by many and will be dearly missed. With love Edwina xx (Perth, Australia)

We were always pleased to be in Mary Ann's presence. She was classy and dignified, but at any moment could take on a childlike, enthusiastic playfulness, and charm us into her personal zest for life. She lived fully, boldly, optimistically and with astounding bravery to take on whatever cancer horror came to her...and a smile was her calling card through it all. She made a positive impact on those who knew her. We will continue to celebrate Mary Ann's life!
