MARY ANNE BARNES (nee Hadden) was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter and friend. After a courageous battle with cancer, she passed peacefully on December 20, 2021 at the age of 76. She is survived by her husband, John Barnes, children Kimberly (Bill) Kalmar of Grosse Pointe, Michigan, Melany (Peter) Malquest of Rocky River, Ohio, Kevin (Christina Schneider) Barnes of Athens, Georgia, and David (Misty Dennis) Barnes of Athens, Georgia, and grandchildren Joe Kalmar, Alex Kalmar, Katie Malquest, Caroline Kalmar, Alabee Barnes, Tom Malquest, and Owen Barnes. She is also survived by her sisters, Jean (Steve) Shulman and Nancy (John) Ciresi and her loving extended family. She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Ada Hadden and her brothers Patrick and Larry Hadden.
Mary Anne loved music, art and quilting but was happiest when surrounded by her family. Her warm smile, infectious laugh and caring heart brought joy and comfort to many. To her, everyone she encountered was family and she treated them as such. She was an active participant in her Catholic church community in each of the cities in which she lived including St. Christopher’s Parish in Rocky River, Ohio, St. Patrick’s Parish in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, St. Clare of Montefalco Parish in Grosse Pointe Michigan, and St. Mary’s Parish in Mentor, Ohio. She found great joy in serving others through various volunteer organizations. She has left a legacy of creativity, faith, love of family, and service to others.
Due to concerns regarding the COVID-19 virus, the family will hold a private service with a celebration of life to be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Forgotten Harvest (a food rescue organization with which her daughter, Kimberly, is affiliated) in her honor: https://www.forgottenharvest.org/donate/ .
