Mary Baier Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 5, 2011.
Mary A. Baier, beloved wife, mother and grandmother passed away on July 2, 2011 at Namaste Alzheimer's Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She was born in Washington, D.C., July 8, 1934 the only child of the late Remus and Nell Askew.

In her younger years Mary was active in Job's Daughters and Eastern Star. In 1960 she was married to William J. Baier of Delhi, New York. Mary was a dedicated wife and mother. As her family grew she faithfully devoted most of her time to her children and their activities, whether it was driving them to practices or cheering them on from the sidelines. As her children began to grow older and move into their own lives, she went to work as an administrative assistant for the National Institute of Standards and Technology in Gaithersburg, Maryland, from where she retired in 1994. Early in her retirement Mary spent her time volunteering at St. Francis nursing center and performing hearing tests on newborns at Penrose Hospital. Always a child at heart, she spent her later retirement years enjoying her grandchildren.

Mary leaves behind her devoted husband of 51 years, William J. Baier with whom she had five children: Leslie, Laura, Greg, John and Jeanette; and twenty-two grandchildren.

Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, July 7, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 2650 Parish View, Colorado Springs, Colorado.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Namaste Alzheimer's Center, 2 Penrose Boulevard, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80906.

Dear Bill and family,

Krisi and I were very saddened to hear of Mary's passing. We're so sorry that we weren't able to be with you at the funeral for we were out of town on vacation on that day. Mary was a wonderful person and we always enjoyed chatting with her at church or around the neighborhood. Know that you are in our thoughts and prayers.
