Mary BOYD Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province on Jun. 2, 2013.
BOYD, Mary Edra
Mary Edra Boyd, a woman of great refinement and elegance, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 23, 2013 in Calgary, AB. She will be remembered by all who knew her as having a lifelong love of learning and an engaging personality. Edra never knew a stranger. Her interests were limitless - she left an impressive library of both books and tapes which covered a broad range of topics. Her most passionate interest was current events, and even in her advanced years, she remained well-informed and up to date on occurrences throughout the world. She loved conversing with people, yet never shared her own accomplishments, which were many. Her remark in that regard was, "Honour needs no seeking." Edra was the oldest of nine children and felt a great responsibility to be a good role model - a goal she truly achieved. She set an impressive example as a mother who was willing to make any sacrifice necessary to ensure the best education for her children, and she took great joy in their successes. She taught them perseverance and fortitude by her own conduct. Although she was tiny in stature, she was a very imposing figure. Edra, who was predeceased by her husband, James Lennox Boyd, is survived by two children: Dedra (Graeme) and Jim (Liz), six grandchildren: Edra, Claire (Colm), Katy, Kristin, Beth, and Kathleen (Blane) and two great-grandchildren, Katie and Owen. Four of her eight siblings also survive her - sisters Ilyene, Alva, Pat and Donelda - as well as many nieces and nephews. Edra was a tiny giant who will always live in the memories of those who knew and loved her. In accordance with her wishes, there will be no memorial service.
