Mary Campbell Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 16, 2015.
CAMPBELL, Mary Stack Mary Stack Campbell passed away on December 14, 2015. She graced the world with lively conversation and laughter for 92 wonderful years. Mary loved spending time with family and friends. The gift of 92 years meant she had the opportunity to enjoy the people around her to the fullest, and they her. She was predeceased by Bob Campbell, the love of her life for 47 years and their dear son, Bill Campbell. Mary was born to Jack and Anne (Conway) Stack on September 6, 1923, in Pittsburgh, PA. She leaves cherished memories to daughters Cathy (Brooks) Thurmond and Colleen Campbell of Atlanta, GA, a son, Casey Campbell of Fayetteville, GA., a daughter Connie (Larry) Murphy of Gainesville, GA, and a daughter Kelly Campbell of New York City. Mary was generously blessed with many grandchildren and great grandchildren - Jessica (Rush) Bradley of Atlanta, children Grace and Abigail Bradley; Laurie (Matt) Curtis of Athens, children Paige, Chloe, Justin and Dominic; Ryan (Mimi) Murphy of Jersey City NJ, son Louis; Jenna Campbell of Atlanta, GA Claire Campbell of Philadelphia, PA, and Hannah Campbell of Fayetteville, GA. Extended family includes many dear nieces and nephews. Mary was a life-long devout Catholic. She graduated from Taylor Allderdice High School in Pittsburgh. Meeting Bob Campbell on a blind date in Pittsburgh was "the best thing that ever happened to me" - they married and moved to Columbus, GA where they raised their children. Mary loved playing bridge with friends, golf trips to Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, going out to dinner with Bob on Saturday nights and always looking her best. The family moved from Columbus to Atlanta in 1967. One of her most cherished treasures was her enduring friendship with Jennifer McInnis - they shared much laughter, many stories and untold political "conversations". That Jennifer's children continue to visit Mary years after Jennifer passed speaks volumes of the love the two mothers shared. Mary resided at Clairmont Place until the time of her passing. The last year of her life she was cared for lovingly by Juanita Floyd for whom her children are immensely grateful. Visiting Nurse Hospice at Emory Hospital provided every comfort possible to Mary and much peace of mind to the family. A memorial mass will be offered on Friday, January 15, 2016 at 4:00 p.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Visiting Nurse Hospice of Atlanta.
