Mary Ciccolo Obituary

Published by The Framingham Tab from Aug. 7 to Aug. 17, 2018.
Mary R. ( Kelty) Ciccolo, of Auburn, formerly of Framingham, died peacefully Sunday morning, August 5, 2018 surrounded by her loving family. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph P. Ciccolo. Mary was 99 years old. Mary was a teacher in the Framingham School system for 18 years where she taught English at Walsh Middle School before her retirement in 1985. For many years, she also enjoyed working part time at Bailey, Banks & Biddle (Stowells) at their Natick Mall Store. Mary was a 1940 graduate of Salem State University where she was a business major. After the death of her husband in 1967, Mary returned to her studies and received her Masters Degree in English from Framingham State University. As an English teacher, Mary was known for being a stickler for proper grammar. In a 1985 newspaper article, the school board recognized her teaching achievements, emphasizing how she used The Preposition Song, set the tune of Yankee Doodle Dandy to inspire her students. Over the years, many former pupils stopped her on the street to sing that very song. Mary is survived by three children, Carol A. Kelly (Gerry Husted) of Falmouth, J. Laurence Ciccolo (Suzanne) of Auburn, and Anne C. McCullough (James) of Milford. She is lovingly remembered as Grams by eight grandchildren, Devin Kelly (Tricia), Tobin Kelly (Margaret), Joseph Ciccolo (Shirley), Anne Ziniti (Donald), Craig McCullough (Laura), Keith McCullough (Brandy), Jodie McQuillan (Patrick), and David Husted (Denise). Her grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren will lovingly remember Grams for her Red Sox and Celtic passion, and delicious mint brownies. Family and friends will honor and remember Marys life by gathering for visiting hours in the McCarthy, McKinney & Lawler Funeral Home, 11 Lincoln St. Framingham, on Thursday, August 9th from 5 | 8 P.M. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday morning in St. Bridget Church, 830 Worcester Rd. (Rt 9 E) at 9 oclock. Interment will follow in St. Stephen Cemetery, Framingham. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made in Marys name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105, www.stjude.org. So sorry to hear of Mary's passing. She was such a good friend to my mother Ruthie! After my mother passed, Mary took me to the jewelers building to refit my mother's diamond ring and convinced me to buy more diamonds!

It is not often a 60 y/o remembers his teachers from middle school but I have fond memories of Mrs Ciccolo's class. She is one of the reason I always did better in English than I did in math. Thank you Mary. RIP knowing how many students love and remember you.

To all of Mary's family:
I did not know you personally but your mother allowed us to buy the wonderful house you grew up in on Edgell Rd. She was cautious in who would get it, and I know she did not want to leave it. She enabled my children to have many fond memories there as I am sure you have of the place. She was a special lady in so many ways, and am grateful that she also taught my children at Walsh. May her beautiful smile and the memories remain with you all. She will be missed.
