Mary Cuomo Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 27, 2015.
Mary was born in The Bronx on June 20, 1926 to Biagina and Salvatore Ciraldo. She had one younger sister, Eleanor, who died from a fatal illness at age 19 and who always stayed in Mary's heart. She married childhood sweetheart Nicolas Cuomo in 1948 after his return from the Navy in World War Two. She and Nick settled in their old Southern Boulevard neighborhood where they raised their three children, Geraldine, Ann Marie and Jean Marie who died in infancy. Nick and Mary were married for more than 65 years until Nick passed away in 2014. They lived their entire lives in The Bronx, mostly on Kingsbridge Road, until moving to Fleetwood in 2012.

Mary was a devoted daughter to her parents throughout their lives and cherished her children and family. She worked as a bookkeeper and, after the children were of school age, as a school aide and Avon representative. After retirement, she and Nick enjoyed many years at the Aging in America Senior Center where Mary served as Club President on two separate occasions. After a long illness, Mary succumbed peacefully at Calvary Hospital on January 25 at the age of 88. She leaves Ann Marie, Geraldine and her husband Daniel who will miss her, but cherish the memory of her vibrant and loving nature.
