Mary Day Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 11, 2025.
Mary Joyce Day, 83, of Simsbury, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2025, at home with her family by her side. She was the beloved wife of Arthur Pomeroy Day.

Born in Sacramento, California, she was the daughter of Patrick and Domenica (Manno) Bruno.

She came from a large Sicilian family with many brothers and a sister and grew up in a loving, caring home. She was a gifted child, becoming a member of MENSA at a very early age and attending an advanced school for mathematics in New York State shortly thereafter. She graduated from Berkeley with a bachelor's degree in mathematics and achieved a master's degree in mathematics at Stanford at the age of 19.

Mary started her career in the early 1960's as courier for the Federal Government before and during the Vietnam War. She continued her career as the first woman General Manager at Harrah's Casino in Tahoe, Nevada. It was there, she met the love of her life, Arthur, in the summer of 1972. They married on August 12, 1973, and moved to the East Coast where Arthur's family resided. Mary welcomed her first daughter, Michelle, on March 5 ,1974, where she then turned her focus on family. Her second daughter, Lucy, was born on November 7, 1983. She lived to care for her family and did everything in her power to make sure they succeeded in life.

When Lucy got a bit older, she started a second career in Simsbury by opening a bakery location of the Whole Donut. This became her Focus. Mary and her husband, Arthur, put their blood, sweat, and tears into making the business a success. Her beloved clientele ranged from bikers to Judges and everyone in between. They all loved to come in to talk to Mary, she was a loved fixture in the Simsbury Community for many years.

After retiring from the bakery business, Mary shifted her focus once again to her family and her daily life. A staunch lover of Rush Limbaugh's daily radio show and soap operas, Mary loved to spend time with her daughters and husband during the summer at their family retreat on Caspian Lake in Vermont. But the highlight of Mary's life was becoming a step grandmother to Elisabeth and grandmother to Raylan, and Bryer Rose. She lived for every moment and second she spent with them, playing games with Elisabeth, talking about work trucks with Raylan, and hearing about Bryer playing soccer at Soccer Shots.

In addition to her husband of 52 years, she is survived by her daughters, Michelle Bleimeister and husband Eric, Lucy Jackson and husband Jerry; grandson, Raylan Bleimeister and her two granddaughters, Elisabeth Bleimeister and Bryer Rose Jackson. She also leaves behind her sister, Patricia Pribble and niece Eva Pribble.

She is predeceased by numerous loved family members.
