Mary EMERSON Obituary

Published by Ottawa Citizen from Oct. 27 to Oct. 29, 2016.
EMERSON, Mary Jean (Jeannie)
M. Jean Emerson (nee Shearer) was born in Ottawa on November 16, 1954 and passed away peacefully on Monday, October 24, 2016. Jean was the beloved wife and sweetheart of the late John G. Emerson. In addition, she was predeceased by her father J. Douglas Shearer, mother Phyllis (Shearer) Read, brother David Shearer, and sister Wendy McNamara. Jean is survived by her sister Cathy Schipilow (Bill), aunt Margaret McGee (late Don), stepfather Ron Read, brother-in-law Michael McNamara (Joan), sister-in-law Christina Walker, as well as many cousins and their families, including Chris Sadler and Patricia Nicholls. Jeannie was dearly loved by the Emerson family, who have always been there for her and offered every support. She leaves behind Bob Emerson (Andy Brown), Carolyn Cannon (late Leo), Bill Emerson (Pamala Pinault), and Melissa Dougherty (Gary). Aunt Jeannie was a special aunt to her beloved nieces and nephews (Greg McNamara, Zachary McNamara, Doug Schipilow, John Schipilow, Kristina Sheldon, Kevin Cannon, Amy Cannon, Jamie Kipp, Joe Emerson, Kristin Pinault, Sarah Gilchrist, Kathryn Dougherty) their spouses, and her grandnieces and grandnephews. Jean will be lovingly remembered by her best friends Sandy McDonald, Marcia and Brent Stapleton, and cousins David and Karen Graham, her world travelling companions. Jeannie loved to visit them in the county and she was delighted to be able to see the completion of "the farm" renovations. The family would like to send extra special thanks to Jean's palliative care physician Dr. Paul Hacker, and the Ottawa Regional Cancer Centre physicians Dr. Goss, Dr. MacRae and Dr. Malone. To all the staff at Stillwater Creek Retirement Community and from 'At Home Hospice': You are amazing, thank you so much for your care and compassion. We will never forget you. A memorial mass will be held at St. Isidore Roman Catholic Parish, 1135 March Road, Kanata, on Monday, October 31 at 10:30 a.m. Friends are invited to a reception at the Pinecrest Reception Centre, 2500 Baseline Road, Ottawa following the service. In honour of Jeannie, please feel free to wear something pink or with stripes. In lieu of flowers or donations, please remember Jean with an act of kindness.
