FISK, Mary Darlene (nee Zarowny)
1961 - Wadena, SK
2013 - Calgary, AB
Celebrating the everlasting spirit of Mary Fisk
Mary was born on June 7, 1961 in Wadena, SK to Joe and Annie Zarowny. Being the youngest girl out of seven brothers and sisters Mary was special. Growing up with such a large family, her house was always filled with family friends and neighbours. Everyone was always welcome at the Zarowny's. From this, Mary learned the importance of family and friends. Upon completion of school Mary moved to Saskatoon to further her formal education. Tears were shed as we would watch her wave from the bus as it drove past the farm. Mary made the best of the big city life and was sure to return home as often as she could. We counted the days until she came home for holidays. It was not Christmas until Mary came home. After finishing her education she moved to Calgary. At the age of 20 she started with the University of Calgary where she worked her entire life. Most of this time was spent in the Faculty of Graduate Studies until she made a recent career change to IT. During this time she made lifetime friends whose support and love will never be forgot. On July 27, 1991 Mary married Dave Fisk of Calgary. Between traveling to far off lands and spending summers in their trailer in Sundre, Mary and Dave lived life to its fullest. Mary and Dave went their separate ways in 2007. Mary's greatest joys were her puppies. She loved taking them for walks. The endless photos and stories we have will live on forever. Casey, Heidi, Rascal and Angel – you were her kids and she will always love you. Mary always believed that when dogs pass over they cross Rainbow Bridge. She too has now made that journey. Mary dedication and commitment to life was inspiring. Daughter, sister, aunty and best friend are just some of the words used to describe such a wonderful person. Her smile and laugh would light up a room. Through all of her life's challenges, she took each one day by day. After an almost two-year battle with cancer we had to say goodbye to Mary on June 19, 2013. Waiting for her on the other side is her father, Joe Zarowny and brother- in-law Bill Townend. She leaves behind her mother, Anne Zarowny, siblings and their spouses, nieces and nephews and friends. Today we do not say goodbye. Because, Mary, your everlasting spirit will always be with us. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY'S Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Saturday, June 29, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In living memory of Mary Fisk, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park.

Ryan, your Aunt was an incredible person. In her honor I will plant a tree for her here in Nova Scotia. I'll make sure it has an ocean view so that she can visit any time. xo

I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Mary. I worked with her when I was working in the Faculty of Nursing, helping the Nursing Graduate students. She was always so cheerful, helpful and such a hard worker. It is with sadness that I pass on my sympathies to Mary's family! Know she was valued and very well liked at the University.

It was my pleasure to work with and get to know Mary while at the U of C in Graduate Studies (mid 1990's). Her smile, pleasant nature and helpfulness will always be remembered. A true bright light. Heartfelt condolences to the family on Mary's passing. Many share your loss.

I'm so very saddened to her of Mary's passing. While I never worked directly with Mary, our paths would sometimes cross and we would share stories about our dog's antics and we understood the happiness they brought to our lives. Mary was always laughing or smiling and that is a wonderful quality to share with people.

Deepest sympathy to Mary's family.
