Mary Gail Bryan Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 27, 2024.
Mary Gail Bryan, aged 73, of Dennis, MA, passed away peacefully at home on November 24, 2024, with her beloved daughter Maura by her side. Born on October 20, 1951 in Seattle, WA, Mary Gail was the eldest of six children, predeceased by her parents, Dr. James E. and Mary (Dawley) Bryan, and her sister Kathleen Bryan. She leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication, survived by numerous cherished friends, siblings, and cousins.

Mary Gail was a distinguished academic, earning her bachelor's degree from Newton College of the Sacred Heart and two master's degrees in Education and School Administration from Northeastern University. Her career as a guidance counselor and principal in the Boston Public Schools was marked by her profound impact on countless students. She took immense pride in transforming a Level 5 school to Level 1, a testament to her commitment and leadership.

Beyond her professional achievements, Mary Gail considered her role as a mother to Maura her most significant accomplishment. In retirement, she embraced life with enthusiasm, enjoying off-roading on the beach with her dogs, playing Mahjong at the WDYC, and participating in book clubs and social gatherings that brought her immense joy.

Mary Gail's warmth and generosity were evident in her community involvement, particularly during the holiday season, where she actively participated in toy collections and family sponsorships. In her memory, donations to local community schools during Christmas are encouraged, continuing her legacy of kindness.

A private burial will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery in Melrose, MA, with a celebration of her life planned for the spring. Mary Gail's spirit of hospitality and her ever-present question, "Can I get you anything?" will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.

Mary Gail was a good friend, a wonderful mother and a dedicated educator. I went to college with Mary Gail and it was there I learned Mary Gail was a master prankster who could concoct and execute a practical joke with precision that made our group of friends howl with laughter. Mary Gail loved life. Thank you for the memories, MGB.

We will never forget Mary Gail and are grateful for her enduring friendship, gracious hospitality, and wicked (good) sense of humor. The strength and courage she showed, especially during the course of her illness, is an inspiration. As we finish decorating our Christmas tree with a skirt Mary Gail gifted to us over twenty years ago, we are recalling with great fondness her thoughtfulness as well as the many good times we shared with her and Maura.

Had the pleasure of re-meeting Mary Gail this year after having been neighbors back in 1968 when my parents bought on the Cape. So kind and sweet. Loved catching up and was so sad to hear she was sick. Thinking of her family and friends. My your memories bring you comfort.

From the few times I met Mary I was absolutely obsessed. So kind and the cutest of styles, her smile lit up the room. Her daughter Maura is a true testament of how wonderful a person she was and I´m so thankful for that Mary brought her into this world. Mary, thank you.

Mary Gail graduated from High School in 1970. I remember that the day of her graduation it was game 4. I did not get to see Bobby Orr´s famous goal as her flew through the air because family was required to attend. I teased her about that for years.
