LOWELL - Mary T. (Beane) Gaudette, 92, a resident of Lowell, passed away on Thursday, April 23, 2020, surrounded by her family at D'Youville Senior Care. She was the beloved wife of Robert J. Gaudette who passed away in November 2018. Mary was born in Lowell on October 1,1927, at the Cheney-Allard Hospital, a daughter of the late Thomas J. Beane and Mary F. (Flynn) Beane of Lowell, MA. She was raised in the "Grove" section of Lowell and graduated from the Sacred Heart Grammar School and Lowell High class of 1945 with high honors. During high school she was a member of the National Honor Society as well as a Girl Officer. After high school she went into training to become a nurse but did not follow that career path. She instead decided to join New England Telephone Company as telephone operator and later became supervisor. Mary married Bob on June 6, 1953, settling in the Christian Hill neighborhood in the Centralville section of Lowell, where together the couple raised six children, during their 65 years of marriage. Mary worked for New England Telephone Company, NYNEX and AT&T retiring in 1987. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers Association and local IBEW. Mrs. Gaudette was a devout Catholic and a life-long communicant – either at St. Michael Parish in Lowell, MA, or at St. Francis Parish in Dracut, MA. In her later years she viewed mass on television. Mary also donated to many religious charities including the Priests of the Sacred Heart. Beyond Mary's devotion to her career and family, she enjoyed reading romance, mystery and biography novels, loved shopping at malls as well as online for fashion and clothing designs and amassed an extensive shoe collection. She also liked dining out, spending summers and entertaining family & friends at the family camp in N.H.'s Lakes Region and music and movies from her era of 1940's and 1950's." As a child Mary enjoyed Hampton Beach and baseball games with her father. In retirement, Mary and Bob, together with family and friends, travelled throughout the country, as well as tropical vacation spots. Mary was known to many as having a dry sense of humor, generosity of spirit, and numerous facets of good moral character. She is survived by a daughter, five sons and spouses; Ann M. Beaulieu and her husband Gary, James E. Gaudette and his wife Susan M. (Nicolls), Richard J. Gaudette and his wife Gloria T. (Roy), Paul M. Gaudette, Michael F. Gaudette, David J. Gaudette and his wife Lisa A. (Shemchuk), eight grandchildren; John Linnehan Jr., Shauna White, Krysten Leslie, Brian Gaudette, Ryan Gaudette, Emily Gaudette, Matthew Gaudette, and Jared Gaudette, six great grandchildren; Alexa Linnehan, Olivia and Jack White, Isabelle and Edward Gaudette and Ellie Leslie. A sister in law; Ann L. "Nancy" Beane, brother in law; Leon J. Gaudette, three nephews; Thomas, Robert and Lawrence Beane. Mary was predeceased by a son, Robert T. Gaudette, who died as an infant in June 1954, brother Thomas E Beane, sisters in law, Eileen R. (O'Brien) Gaudette, Joan M. (Cyr) Gaudette. The Gaudette family would like to thank the staff at D'Youville Senior Care -- especially the devoted workers from Belvidere Lane -- for their outstanding and compassionate care. Donations in her name may be made to: D'Youville Life & Wellness Community Foundation, 981 Varnum Avenue, Lowell, MA 01854.
