Mary Hulker Obituary
Born, in Louisville, Kentucky, Mary Helen was the beloved wife of Donald Ray Hulker. Together, they shared 67 (almost 68) years of marriage, filled with love. The two of them met in their neighborhood as teenagers. They graduated from Shawnee High School together in 1956. Their life together was marked by partnership in work, family, travel, golf, and ballroom dancing. In recent years, Don lovingly became Mary Helen's most patient and devoted caregiver, a testament to the deep bond they shared.
Mary Helen was a devoted mother to Bryan Hulker, (her "favorite son") married to Jamie Bradley Hulker, and Brenda Hulker Johnson (her "favorite daughter"). She was a cherished grandmother to Kevin Johnson (who preceded her in death), Grant Johnson, Wesley Johnson, Brad Hulker, and Matt Hulker. Her grandsons treasure fond memories of many visits and summers spent at 'Grandparent Camp', filled with laughter, love, and countless games of Parcheesi. Mary Helen adored her family - especially her grandsons- and never missed an opportunity to tell them, or others, just how 'Good' they were.
Recently, Mary Helen became a great-grandmother to two beautiful girls whose photos brought her immense joy in her final days: Lucy Louise Hulker, daughter of Brad and Madison Hulker, and Luz-Helena Hulker, daughter of Matt and Amy Hulker. Mary Helen's legacy of kindness and her gift for seeing the good in everyone will live on through them.
Mary Helen was a dedicated member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, where she found strength and community. She was known for her joyful visits to church members who could no longer attend services, always bringing her warm smile and generous spirit.
Mary Helen's life was a testament to love, faith and grace. She will be missed beyond measure.
Visitation and a memorial service will be held on Saturday August 30, 2025, at St. Paul United Methodist Church located at 2000 Douglass Blvd. Louisville, KY 40205. Visitation will begin at 1:30 pm and the memorial service will begin at 2:30 pm.
In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church.
