Mary Jordan Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 20, 2024.
Mary Ann Jordan, 81, of Myrtle Beach, SC, formerly of Cedar Rapids, IA, went home to Jesus on Tuesday March 19, 2024. A memorial will be held Sunday March 24, 2024 at 1:00 P.M. Location will be River of Life Church of God, 1112 Cox Ferry Road Conway, South Carolina 29526.

Mary was born on September 30th 1942, the daughter or Merle and Ruth Cook Tomkins. Mary graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1960. She married the love of her life, David Howard Jordan, on May 18, 1967 at Sharon United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A day that will forever be remembered as a day of love and emergency sirens. That day she also became a mother to David's son Mark. Mary and David went on to have 2 more children, William and Chrystal.

When Mary had her children, she decided to dedicate her life to being a caring and wonderful homemaker. Mary excelled at supporting her husband, children, and later grandchildren in whatever it was they decided to pursue. Once her youngest child was in high school, she decided she wanted to get back into the workforce and went to work at JCPenney. In 1989, Mary and the family moved from Cedar Rapids to Myrtle Beach, SC. She continued at JCPenney after the move to South Carolina until she left to become a full-time sitter for her grandchildren. Mary loved her family very much, especially her grandchildren. She was always grateful to be an active and loved part of their lives.

Mary was an active member of Sharon United Methodist church during her lifetime in Cedar Rapids. She enjoyed card club with her friends, the church's couponing group, and progressive dinners. She became a member of Socastee Church of God in the mid 1990's to join the church her daughter and grandson went to and then later in 1999 she became a charter member of River of Life Church of God. There she started a card ministry and created the member directory for many years. Most recently she enjoyed being a part of The Swords Bible Study Senior Ministry at River of Life.

Mary is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 57 years David; her three children, sons Mark (Debbie), William (Kim), and daughter Chrystal Jordan Spivey; grandsons Christopher Spivey, Joshua Jordan, David Jordan; granddaughters Cayley Spivey, Sarah Jordan, Leslie Jordan, Lyndsey Hood; brother William Tomkins; sisters-in-law Linda Tomkins and Shirley Tomkins; and much loved nieces and nephews.

Mary was predeceased by her father and her mother; her brothers Thomas Tomkins and Richard Tomkins.

Mary will always be remembered in the hearts of those that love her.

In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Mary's name would be appreciated

Mary and David sat in front of me at church they both were so sweet. They invited me to meet them for lunch one day and we had such a great time. I haven't known her for too long but she still made an impression on me. She will be missed. I'm thankful she has no more pain and that she is with her father and savior. My prayers are with David and the family.
