LAFAYETTE - Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 6, 2017, at a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial in the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in Lafayette for Mary Jane "Chubby" Leete, age 77, who passed away on Thursday, December 29, 2016 at her residence in Lafayette with her family at her side.

Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in New Iberia.

Reverend Patrick Broussard, Associate Pastor of the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Rev. Joseph F. Brennan will be an honorary Concelebrant. Lectors will be Mary Griffith and Allan Campo. Giftbearers will be Mechelle Schmitz, Lauren Schmitz Ardoin, and Tracy Schmitz. Eulogist will be Alice Voorhies.

Survivors include her sons, Andy Schmitz and his wife Mechelle (her heart daughter) of Lafayette, and Chuck Schmitz and his wife Tracy of Plano, Tx.; her grandchildren, Drew Schmitz of Dallas, Tx., and Lauren Schmitz Ardoin of Lafayette; and her great granddaughter, Gracie Daigle; her sisters, Pal Terrell of New Iberia, and Pat Denney of Morgan Hill, Ca.; and a niece who she loves as a daughter, Mary Griffith of Burlingame, Ca. and several other nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Keith Schmitz; her second husband, Ted Leete; her parents, Leonard and Mercedes Vuillemot; and her brother, Emile Vuillemot.

A native of New Iberia and a Lafayette resident for 58 years, Chubby was a retired executive secretary who raised two very active boys and supported them in all their sporting, spiritual, and personal endeavors. She was a graduate of Mt. Carmel in New Iberia, and attended SLI for business. Her joys in life were tennis, basketball, traveling, beaches, good times with friends, and dining at LaFonda's. She loved God, her family, and her close friends, especially the Aqua Belles. She will be remembered for her kind, gentle soul, her gracious ways, her understanding ear, and her valuable and loving advice.

Pallbearers will be Andy Schmitz, Chuck Schmitz, Drew Schmitz, Tom Schmitz, Dow Drobish, and Jim Venable.

Honorary Pallbearers will be the Lafayette Aqua Belles.

The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille's DOWNTOWN location on Thursday from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Friday from 8:30 AM until time of service.

A Rosary will be prayed Thursday at 7:00 PM in Martin & Castille Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made in Mary Jane Leete's name to the Carmelite Monastery of Mary, Mother of Grace, 1250 Carmel Drive, Lafayette, LA 70501, 337-232-3623.
