Mary Olds Meikle

Mary Olds Meikle, age 88, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2025, in Cary, North Carolina. Born on March 22, 1937, in Willimantic, Connecticut, Mary led a life devoted to education, service, and family.

Her teaching career began in Connecticut and later brought her to Wilmington, North Carolina. She eventually settled in Cary, where she spent the final 27 years of her career at Henry Adams Elementary School. Mary retired in 1997 after decades of inspiring students with her patience and dedication. She was deeply respected by colleagues and students alike for the warmth and kindness she brought to every classroom.

Mary was also an active member of Alpha Delta Kappa (ADK), an international honorary organization for women educators. Her involvement reflected her enduring commitment to mentorship and lifelong learning. Through ADK, she formed lasting friendships and continued to support fellow educators.

Mary shared 65 years of marriage with her husband, Bob Meikle. She is lovingly remembered by her children: son Robbie Meikle and his wife Betty; daughter Kathy Tedder and her husband Mike. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren Celeste Cook and her husband Chris Cook, and Connor Meikle; as well as great-grandchildren Caedy Cook and Carlyle Cook.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Bill Olds.

Her family will have a celebration of life at her favorite vacation spot in Sunset Beach, North Carolina, where she spent many cherished vacations with family and friends.

Mary Olds Meikle will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. May her memory bring comfort and inspiration to those she leaves behind.
