Mary Slyman Obituary

Mary L. (White) Slyman, age 92, of Hingham, a former longtime resident of Roslindale, died peacefully, Thursday, July 3, 2025 at the Pat Roche Hospice Home in Hingham, surrounded by her loving family.

Mary was born in Quincy, to the late Fred J. and Anna E. (MacIver) White. Raised and educated in Weymouth, she was a graduate of Weymouth High School, Class of 1951.

She lived at Linden Ponds in Hingham for the past eighteen years, where she developed many friendships and cherished memories. Prior to that, she lived in Roslindale for fifty years.

Mary was employed as a sales associate at the former Decelle's in West Roxbury for twenty-nine years and had been retired for many years.

She was a longtime member of the Parkway Seniors Club and the VFW Seniors Club, both of West Roxbury. She also enjoyed playing Bingo at various churches in West Roxbury.

Most of all, Mary was devoted to her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren, actively supporting their many activities and accomplishments.

Beloved wife of the late Thomas G. Slyman, Boston Fire Department, Retired.

Devoted mother of Michael J. Slyman and his wife Susan of Weymouth, and the late James W. Slyman.

Loving grandmother of Amy L. Purkis and her husband John of Hanover, Thomas P. Slyman and his wife Sara of Long Island, N.Y., and Erin M. Slyman of Hanover.

Cherished great grandmother of Shelby, Emma, and Michael.

The last of four siblings, she was predeceased by Anna M. Clare, Dorothy E. Fitzgerald, and John F. White.

Mary is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and their families.



At the request of the family, funeral services were private.
