Mary MacMillan Smith, 89, died on Jan. 11, 2003, at the N.C. Little Hospice in Edina. Mary was born on Feb. 18, 1913, in Cloquet, to Guy C. and Tena Smith. She graduated from Cloquet High School and attended Superior Teachers College. She was employed by the Northern Printery in Cloquet for 36 years, before retiring in 1978. She was a life-long member of the Cloquet Presbyterian Church. Mary embarked on a new adventure in Oct. of 2000, when she moved to Minneapolis to live with a niece, and be closer to more of her extended family. She often declared, 'it was the right decision.' She was preceded in death by her parents; three younger siblings, Susan Smith Hanson, Jean Smith, and Donald Smith; nieces Julia Hanson Monson, and Christine Smith Rontti and fiance' Thuri Duvall. Mary is survived by nieces Karen Hanson Christenson of Minneapolis, Susan Jane Hanson (Denis) Polley of Columbia Heights, and Debra Smith (Kenneth) Beck of Carlton; nephew Thomas Guy Hanson of St. Cloud; five cousins; ten great nieces and nephews and their children; and several beloved Cloquet friends. MEMORIAL SERVICE:1 p.m. February 17, 2003, in the Presbyterian Church of Cloquet, 47 4th Street. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall. Private family interment will be at East Hillcrest Cemetery, Cloquet. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Cloquet Presbyterian Church, or to the N.C. Little Hospice of Edina are preferred. Arrangements are by Barr Brothers - Handevidt Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 218-879-4636.
