Mary Elsner Spain

Mary Spain, our precious grandmother, great-grandmother, mother-in-law, and friend passed into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on April 28, 2023. She was a beautiful example of love, strength, loyalty, and dedication, mixed with a little bit of spice. She celebrated 100 wonderful years.

Mary was born in San Antonio, TX on December 12, 1922, to parents, Otto and Ana Elsner, and there she was raised alongside her three brothers, Paul, Edward and Herman. She later met and married Benjamin Spain, and they moved to Manhattan, New York, where they welcomed their only child, Paul. Ben and Mary raised Paul in New Jersey, and later followed him and his wife, Graylene, to Texas after their first daughter was born.

Mary was very involved in the Methodist Church, always volunteering in one way or another. After her first husband passed away in 1984, the church is where she met Carl, whom she married in 1993. They were married for 11 years until he died in 2004. She was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church in Richardson, Texas and later moved to Southlake where she joined Whites Chapel Methodist. In addition to Mary's passion for the church, Grammy, as she was affectionately known, loved spending time with her great-grandchildren. She was always inviting them over to spoil them with toys and ice cream for dinner. When she was not spending time with her family, she was organizing activities with her friends, whether it be tennis, bridge or ladies' get togethers.

Mary is preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Spain and their beloved son, Michael Paul Spain. She is also preceded in death by her second husband, Carl Yates Jobe. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Graylene Carter Spain, granddaughters Casey Spain Palmer and husband Steven, Brooke Spain Pazera and husband Mike, and Lisa Spain Ciesielski and husband Brad. Mary "Grammy" was blessed with seven great-grandchildren, Trey (9) and Harry (7) Palmer, Tripp (13), Charlie (11) and Mary Caroline (8) Pazera, Crawford (7) and Gray (5) Ciesielski.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday May 11th at 10am.
