Mary Thomson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 17, 2025.
Mary Thomson passed away peacefully at the age of 87 on Monday August 11th. She was born in Springfield Missouri and lived there along with her brother Dave and sisters Dixie and Carla. Mary became quite the equestrian during her youth riding her favorite black stallion "Lucky" competing in many of the fancy gait/trotting competitions and accumulated numerous trophies and ribbons displayed in her mothers family room. She married and moved to Ft Myers in 1959 and worked at Ft Myers High School as an Occupational Specialist for 10 years before moving to Gainesville and redirecting her focus in the nursing profession. She worked in intensive care and hospice and later ran a country medical facility "Acorn" for people of need. She made many lasting friendships during her time in Ft Myers and Gainesville and she loved having a glass of wine while listening to her beloved Eagles records. She was a huge North Ft Myers Red Knight football fan in the late sixties and seventies and grew to love the Florida Gators. She loved sitting on her dock overlooking lake Santa Fe and watching the sunset. During her life in Ft. Myers her kitchen table was home base for many philosophical conversations with her group of great friends. Not only did she make the best snook salad in lee county but she could amaze you with her variety of spam recipes. Mary lived a full life and gave the gift of gratitude and appreciation to the people she shared her life with. She is survived by her son John Hoover and wife Mary as well as her daughter Lori Hoover. Rest in peace mom and may the angels wrap their wings around you as they welcome you to a new beginning.

Earlier today

I had the pleasure of meeting Mary when she came to our house in Andrews North Carolina to spend the weekend. Although I did not know well, I thoroughly enjoyed her visit!
