Masao Takahashi Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 29, 2015.
Masao "Mas" Takahashi, who journeyed from a World War II internment camp to infantry combat in Europe and later became a fervent advocate for Japanese-American veteran rights, has died after a battle with cancer. He was 90.
After he retired, Takahashi dedicated his life to bringing awareness to the stories of the more than 16,000 Japanese-Americans who fought in World War II through the Go For Broke National Education Center. The organization, which is headquartered in Torrance, aims to educate Americans about the hardship and discrimination Japanese-American soldiers faced during and after the war.

Grace and my condolences to the Takahashi Family and close friends.
Mas was an excellent ambassador, representing the Nisei veterans of WWII, especially the 100th Battalion and the 442nd Regimental Combat Team on the GO FOR BROKE float in this year's Rose Parade. His humbleness, humanity, and generosity were very impressive and appreciated. It was my honor to be on the same
float with him. May his many good deeds give comfort to you
now and forever.
With admiration of Mas,
Yosh Nakamura

The Takahashi family & the Korematsu family have been friends for well over 60 years and what sad news of Mas's passing. He was a hero in so many ways and how proud we were to see him on The Go For Broke float at this year's Rose Ball parade. We believe Mas is in heaven with Fred & Kathryn and we miss them all. We always remember Mas's smile and his gentle manners and his wonderful stories. RIP a true American hero and most dear family friend.
With love & God Bless,
Karen & Donald

Mas,
It was a honor knowing you and learning of your courage under trying circumstances during World War II. I'm glad I was able to help you be recognized by France in a special way. Thank you for your service! You made our country proud. Godspeed.

Mr. Takahashi, my fiancé Dave and I were so very honored to meet you and thrilled on each occasion we got to spend time with you. Both of us, in awe of your bravery and patriotism in serving our country, and yet amazed that you were always so gracious and kind in making us feel welcome in your home. So much warmth and goodness in your heart. You'll always be my greatest hero. Thank you for being such a loving father to my dear friend Teresa. She is a very lucky girl. You are already dearly missed, by all of us.

We have known Mas' family for over 20 years and Mas Takahashi is one of the most humble Hero's we've had the honor of knowing . It has been a pleasure witnessing his accomplishments, strength, courage, and dedication throughout the years. We know that his memory, love, and commitment will carry on.

Thank you, Daily Breeze, for featuring my hero and my friend, Mas Takahashi. I have been so blessed to know both him and his family, and he will always be a part of me. I only wish that I could put into appropriate words how much he has meant to me, to our organization (Go For Broke National Education Center), to the area's students, and to the world.
