1917 - 2009
Mats Åke Renlund, 92, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, 4 December 2009. He was born 25 September 1917 in Larsmo, Finland to Matts Leander and Lena Sofia Renlund. He immigrated to Sweden in 1944. It was there that he met Mariana Andersson. He immigrated to the USA so that he could marry her in the Salt Lake Temple; they were married there on 25 May 1950. They made their home in Salt Lake City and raised four children. Mariana passed away in 1994. Mats married Dagny Erika Lillqvist of Jakobstad, Finland in 1996. She died in 2000.
Mats's life centered on his family and his church. He led a full and active life and worked hard to give his children every opportunity to be successful. He is survived by his sister, Signe Gunnell, of Larsmo, Finland; his children, Gary (Sherrie) Renlund, Dale (Ruth) Renlund, Anita Renlund, and Linda (Ray) Maurer; ten grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, 12 December 2009, at the Valley View Stake Center, located at 2245 E 3900 S. Friends may visit beginning at 10:30 AM, the service will start at Noon, and burial at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park will then follow. In honor of Mats's love of learning and in lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions be made to the Perpetual Education Fund of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (www.lds.org/pef/).
