Dear Steve and Family,

Please know that we have just learned of your deep loss; to which, we send our heart felt condolences.

People say that time heals; however, since the loss of my son, Lisa's step-son, Ryan in June of 2008 at the age of 20, what we've learned is that time allows reflection, moments we will forever cherish not to release, and a constant movement forward by which we learn to live differently, holding near those who remain with us while we yearn for the one we lost.

Our wish for you is that each day grants you the freedom and humility to feel and experience the moment that you find yourself in without any apologies, excuses, or guilt while leaning on those who care so deeply for you.

Steve, I remember a lot of good times refereeing on the field with you; and my wife, Lisa not only remembers refereeing with Matthew but recalls his gentleness and patience when they referee'd a few younger matches together at NSC. She also happens to be a 1986 MCCS graduate; and, as an alumni, she assures me that there is no doubt the circle of prayer encompassing you, your family and Matthew within that loving network that she equates is like having a second family! Lisa says you most likely knows this but hopes you feel this at such a devastating time and that it may bring just a mere glimmer of comfort to know how compassionate the school/church is toward their own.

Please know that I am a stone's throw away Steve anytime you need to reach out to someone who can empathize with unexpectedly having laid to rest their own son and I'll be there, night or day...630.945.3588 or [email protected].

Again, our sympathies and know that we are keeping all of your family in our prayers for God's hand to be on each and everyone of your hearts as we empathize your loss.

Our Deepest Compassion and Sincerity,

Todd Gabrielson

Dear Steve and Donna,
When I heard about Matt's sudden passing I was immediately reminded of our 11 year old daughter's sudden passing just 3 years ago and thinking about the painful journey it is to travel the loss of a child. To survive this journey I want to encourage you to maintain your relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ by making sure you attend church each Sunday. (2) Keep a journal and write down all the thoughts ( good and bad) as a way to get those emotional pains out of your head where you can see it on paper. In time you will actually see God's Miricles taking place in your life. (3) Remember, that all three of you will grieve differently and that is OK. (4) Tell yourself that is OK to seek out Professional grief counseling and that you simply cannot do it alone. Remember, that God did not take Matt and that He had a life for him that was full and complete. Remember also that Matt is now in the presence of Jesus and that because of our faith in Jesus Christ we will see him again. In time the emotional pain will get better. Continue to be involved in weekly Church services because you will never know who God might send your way to encourage you. Let the Lord Jesus be your Master Comforter to aching hearts.Any time you want to talk just give me or my wife Linda a call. We can talk on the phone or at a local coffee. shop. Lastly, remember the many blessings that have come your way such as the day your son, Matt, was born.
