Matthew Parry Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 16, 2024.
Matthew James Parry, beloved husband of Kimberly Foshay Parry, passed away suddenly at home in Bridgeport, CT, at the age of 35 after a courageous battle with PTSD.

Matthew proudly served with honor and bravery as Sergeant in the US Army from April 12, 2010 until his honorable discharge on July 17, 2015. He specialized as a combat Engineer and UAV drone pilot during his tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. He was profoundly impacted by the events of 9/11 and his father's selfless work as a volunteer in rescue and recovery at ground zero. This instilled in him a fierce dedication to defend and protect his Country unconditionally.

In his Civilian life, Matthew excelled in numerous occupations and creative ventures. He earned the highest status of Eagle Scout as a member of the Boy Scouts of America. He was a graduate of the University of New Haven with a degree in Fire Science. He was an FAA certified UAV drone pilot, holding the position as the Director of Operations at DROGO, a professional UAV services company. He also served as the Safety Manager at Hallen Construction. He was a gifted craftsman and woodworker, owner of his passion project, Eyes of the Wood. He poured his heart and soul into each individualized artisan piece, all of which were true works of art. He had a deep passion for music and the Black Rock community where he worked closely with local musicians including Goose and Eggy, as well as Park City Music Hall to create one of a kind stage displays and tributes. He was an accomplished rugby player, recognized by The Connecticut General Assembly for winning the 2016 USA Rugby DIII National Championship as a member of the Fairfield Yankee Rugby Team.

In addition to his wife, Matthew is survived by his mother, Marielle Kennedy; brother, Jeffrey Parry; grandmother, Marni Kennedy; as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins. Matthew is predeceased by his father, Lt. James M. Parry; grandfather, James Kennedy; grandfather, Raymond Parry; and grandmother, Ann Parry.

Matthew was charismatic, authentic in his love for connecting with others. Altruistic, he welcomed all with an open-mind. He had the ability to transform any environment into a safe space for others. He created a diverse community of friends that was ever-growing.

A private ceremony to honor Matthew's life will be held with family and military personnel this weekend. We encourage support by attending a remembrance of life, Saturday May 25th, from 1-5PM at Park City Music Hall in Black Rock, CT.

I always strive to be a better person with a deeper understanding of Humanity. Matt thought me a lot about that, through leading by example, while he was with us. He continues to teach me more despite his physical absence.
I´ve never recognized the power of inner pain as much as I did when I heard this person, who I admire so much, fell victim. No matter how happy you are or how happy you make others, anyone of us can find ourselves in a position that seems unfathomably daunting. I´ll never forget that.

I just learned of Matthew Parry's passing. I did not know him long, but I am very sad to hear of his passing. May he be remembered for proudly serving his country, his loyal heart, his artistic talents, and his infectious smile.

I met Matt through a mutual friend when I was living in Milford. We bonded so quickly and have similar interests, he was such a great influence on me and in my life. He taught me commitment and unconditional love (hard love sometimes); for which I will always be grateful.

I will miss you more than words can tell. I love you brother. You were family.

Marielle, Jeffrey, Marni and Kimberly,
My heart goes out to all of you. Reading this beautifully written obituary and all the remembrances of Matthew left me in tears but also in awe and with the utmost respect for him - he lived such a full, accomplished and unique life ... before, during and after his years in the service. I'd no idea that he served so long. His life was truly one of love and service to your family, to our country and apparently to everyone he met.

Everyone in high school knew Matt. He would always be the energy that people needed to smile.

Not only was he the strongest and most skilled rugby player on our team, he was the most popular in our friend group. All the while, he was as kind as could be. I will forever miss him and consider him my best friend.

Matt was a great man.I met him in the army. Although I have a few amazing memories with him one stands out. One year I couldn't afford to go home to see my kids for Christmas. So about 2 days before Christmas he showed up at my door and gave me some money so I could afford to go home to see my kids. He wouldn't take no for an answer. Family was very important to him. I also will always remember his smile.it was so big and bright. I will always remember him as a good man and a man I always looked up to.

"Perseverance through strength and courage"
"Derecho. At the Breach."

I had the privilege and joy of knowing and walking with Matthew at Fort Hood-- deployed with him to Iraq and afterwards. As good a Soldier as he was (sapper and one of the Commander's PSD), he was a gentle and kind soul. Lot of talks in the field. Lot of talks at my home for Friday dinner. So many good memories of this beautiful, beautiful person. He loved his Family, especially his Mom and late Dad. Rest now, young Matthew. Love you always-- John Teitman

I first met Matt when I moved into my house in Black Rock down the street from his home. Right off the bat he was the most neighborly person I´ve ever met. He helped furnished my house and then shortly after built me a beautiful live edge coffee table. From then on our relationship built. We bonded over music especially local music. He was truly one of a kind. Incredibly giving and always there for you. The amount of people he helped without hesitation is truly commendable. Thank you Matt for all that you did for your country, neighborhood, and friends. You will be and are dearly missed.

I met Matthew in 2015 when he invited my sister and I to a New Year´s Eve party. At that party I met Matt, his brother, Jeff, their mom, a future boyfriend, Geoff Cornwell and several other new friends. I saw Matt regularly after that, mostly at parties and he was always the life of every party. He was great at bringing people together. He was warm, friendly, kind and welcoming. I didn´t know him well but we´d chat in passing here and there. I admired his woodwork and last we spoke he was telling me about the tables me made for his wedding and offered to fix them up in time for my own wedding shortly after. My deepest condolences to his wife, family, friends and the many other lives he touched in passing, like mine, that were indirectly but profoundly changed by having known him. I am sorry for your loss and appreciate his service as a veteran and a human being.

Matt was always a caring and kind soul. I knew Matt through rugby when I was younger. When I left college and joined the Yankees matt joined at the same time. We went on to win a national championship together. Matt came in for us in the second half of the championship game and was an integral part of our scrum. Matt will never be forgot.
