Maude L. “Modesta” (Mariani) Crews, 94, of 258 Kemp Ave., North Adams, died Saturday, June 24, 2006, at the North Adams Regional Hospital.
She was born in North Adams on Oct. 14, 1911, daughter of Ettore Mariani and Maria (Maoli) Mariani and was educated in North Adams schools.
She was employed for many years in the production departments of the Sprague Electric Company in North Adams until her retirement in 1974.
She was a communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Church, North Adams, and a member of the Sprague Quarter Century Club and the Sprague Retirees.
Her husband was James Edward Crews Sr., who died Oct. 29, 1994. They were married in North Adams on April 7, 1934 with the Rev. Nicola Mongiello, then pastor of St. Anthony of Padua Church, officiating.
She leaves three daughters, Margaret A. Duguay of North Adams, with whom she made her home, Janet Lanoue of North Adams and Madelyn C. Foster of Pittsfield; a son, James Edward Crews Jr. of North Adams; four grandchildren, Kathleen Duguay of East Stroudsburg, Pa., Jason Crews of Adams, Karen Schaffrick of Windsor and Richard Lanoue of North Adams; three great-grandchildren, Allison Crews, Lauren Crews and Evan Crews; a sister, Jane Paradise of Williamstown; a step-great-granddaughter, Cayla Pierce; and nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
A daughter, Patricia Crews, died in infancy and two brothers are deceased, Ralph Mariani and Alfred Mariani.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Funeral services for Maude Crews will take place Tuesday, June 27, 10:30 a.m. at the Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. in St. Anthony of Padua Church, 64 Marshall St., North Adams.
Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery, North Adams.
Calling hours at the funeral home are Tuesday, June 27, 9:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral.
Donations in her memory may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice through the funeral home.
